🦈 WHITE SHARK CONTENDER IS HEADING INTO UNCHARTED WATERS
Contender is taking us somewhere we haven’t seen another OCEARCH-tagged white shark go before. After passing through the Strait of Belle Isle, he’s now turned south into the Newfoundland Sea, raising new questions about how far north white sharks travel and what may be drawing them into these waters.
Contender is the largest male white shark ever tagged by OCEARCH in the western North Atlantic. When he was tagged in January 2025, this adult male measured 13 ft. 9 in. and weighed an estimated 1,653 pounds.
