"A Real Life Adventure!" Sending Warm Thanks to all of the Friends who've checked in on our recent event this week! We were returning to port after a sunny, calm ocean excursion. As Captain Ryan Simpson neared the jetties, he noticed a lull in the starboard engine, then, found a black “smoke-like” substance in the engine room area. He immediately contacted the Coast Guard, and advised his crew and passengers to stand by.
As we like to say on our tours, "The Local Heroes" from USCG Station Yaquina Bay were on scene in less than 10 minutes. They securely side-tied the two vessels, the Discovery's engines were switched off and the two boats motored back to our Bayfront moorage. Our Awesome local first responders were on scene and determined no injuries or fire was detected. The departing passengers shared various comments, including how they'd enjoyed seeing whales & the ocean, the professional response by our boat team, and having a "real life adventure" watching the Coast Guard at work!
The cause of the "smoke" was determined to be a failure in the exhaust system that filled the engine room with exhaust soot. Repair work has been done, and we'll head out on our next cruise this Saturday. ⚓️🐳🦀🐟🤗🤗🤗
