I’m very excited to share some good news....my longtime friend and colleague, Adam Shamus and I, have launched a new podcast called: “Boomers on the Move!”. Adam is a Seniors Real Estate Specialist with over 18 years of experience guiding individuals and families through important life transitions with expertise and heart. In my planning and coaching practice, Elder Life Directions, I draw upon my 20+ years of experience working with older adults and families, as I help clients plan for their future. And together, Adam and I bring an understanding of the issues and concerns associated with a move later in life.

If you are a Boomer thinking about a move, if you are adult child helping your parents with a move, or if this strikes a chord with you or anyone in your sphere, this podcast is for you!

With lively conversation and splashes of humor, Adam and I will offer up insights, practical tips and useful resources, as will peel back the many layers connected with this next chapter. We’ll discuss Rightsizing, housing options, financial considerations, and how to have productive family discussions, to name a few, all with the goal of helping you move forward with clarity and confidence. It is our belief that better information leads to better decisions!

I'd love for you to give it a listen and share it with your friends, family and colleagues. The first episode is now available on Spotify.

An important question that can weigh heavily on older adults and their families is: "When Is It Time For Assistance?" Often family members of older adults are reluctant to even mention the subject of assistance for fear it will upset their loved one. They may worry that offering assistance may make the older adult feel as if they are giving up their independence, something that each and every one of us values greatly. For additional insight into this question, please read the article "When Is It Time For Assistance?" on my website, www.elderlifedirections.com, click on the tab, "Resources".

As people age, a move to a more “living-friendly” environment can make life easier in so many ways. Often times this may be referred to as “Rightsizing” or “Downsizing”, which are sometimes used interchangeably, although they may also mean different things. For example, if a couple in their mid-sixties wants to move from a multi-story home to a condominium with approximately the same square footage all on one floor, this could be considered “Rightsizing”. If, however, they want to move to a home, condominium or apartment with less square footage, this could be called “Downsizing”. Whichever option a person is contemplating, the task can be less daunting if the right approach is taken. Consider the time frame in which a move will take place and then create a plan. These easy steps will give more control over the process and allow the individual or family to experience a less stressful move. Other important tips on “Rightsizing/Downsizing” can be found on my website: http://www.elderlifedirections.com/resources, look for my article on “Rightsizing Questions”.
