💜Flooding my feed with purple photos from my travels today in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day. 💜
For anyone who doesn’t know, we lost my brother Michael in December 2022 to an overdose.
And although today is a day to honor the ones we have lost, we can’t change the past but we can try to change the future for those that are still here.
If you are still using and aren’t yet in a place to get help, don’t use alone. Keep Narcan on you and someone nearby to help you use it if needed.
If you aren’t an addict but know someone who is or have the potential to run into a stranger that might be (in cities, customer facing work environments, etc) consider being trained in administering and carrying Narcan.
Although in the end my brother used alone and did not make it, years prior he had used at home, I suspected something was up, and was able to get the police there in time to use Narcan and save his life. After that, he got clean for many years, got married, and was able to become a father to my two wonderful nephews. Narcan gave us the opportunity for so many extra years with him and for that I am forever grateful.
