🇯🇵 THERE'S MORE TO JAPAN THAN TOKYO, KYOTO & OSAKA! 🌸
Don't get me wrong, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka are fantastic destinations, and I absolutely recommend them for a first visit to Japan!
But here's the thing about Japan... once you visit, there's a good chance you'll want to go back! ❤️
Having grown up in Japan, I have a special love for this country. And one thing I always tell people is that there is SO much more to Japan than the three cities most visitors focus on.
So, if you're planning a return trip (or want to venture beyond the usual itinerary), here are a few places worth considering!
🏔️ NAGANO – Beautiful mountain scenery, historic temples, traditional onsen towns, and the famous snow monkeys! It's especially wonderful for nature lovers and winter travel.
🌲 KARUIZAWA – A charming mountain resort town with beautiful forests, waterfalls, boutique shops, and cafés. It's a popular escape from Tokyo, particularly during the summer and fall.
🍜 FUKUOKA – One of my favorite suggestions for travelers who love food! Located on the island of Kyushu, Fukuoka is known for its incredible ramen, lively food stalls (yatai), and relaxed atmosphere.
🏯 KANAZAWA – Often overlooked in favor of Kyoto, Kanazawa offers beautifully preserved historic districts, samurai history, traditional crafts, and Kenrokuen, one of Japan's most celebrated gardens.
🌿 TAKAYAMA – Nestled in the Japanese Alps, this charming town is known for its beautifully preserved old streets, traditional wooden buildings, morning markets, and nearby mountain villages.
🌊 HIROSHIMA & MIYAJIMA – A meaningful combination of history and natural beauty. Visit Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park and Museum, then head to Miyajima to see the famous floating torii gate.
💡 MY TRAVEL ADVISOR TIP: Japan has an excellent rail network, making it possible to explore well beyond the major cities. But don't try to squeeze everything into one trip! I always recommend choosing a few destinations and spending enough time in each to really experience them.
And remember, Japan isn't just about cherry blossoms! Fall foliage, winter snow, summer festivals, and beautiful spring scenery all offer different reasons to visit.
