If you're thinking about travel for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's...book it now. Not soon. Now.

Holiday travel dates fill at a different rate than regular trips. Disney resort rooms over Christmas, cruise ships for the Merrytime sailings, family-sized suites for Thanksgiving week. These go well before the holiday itself, not a few weeks before.

The window between now and mid-October is typically when the best options are still available. By November, availability for December is significantly thinner, and prices on what's left have gone up.

If a holiday trip is in the back of your head, the most useful thing you can do right now is start the conversation.

The Yucatán is not the Cancun resort strip. 🇲🇽

It's cenotes. Freshwater sinkholes with clear water 20 or 30 feet down that you can swim and snorkel through. It's Chichen Itza, one of the largest Mayan cities ever built, two hours from Merida. It's Tulum's ruins on a cliff above the Caribbean. It's Valladolid, a small colonial city most tourists drive past without stopping.

The food is different here too: cochinita pibil slow-cooked underground, fresh seafood, regional dishes you won't find on any resort menu.

Short flight from most of the US. Easy to pair with a beach resort if you want both. And completely different from a typical Mexico trip.

National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is offering up to $2,000 in air credits per person on select 2027 voyages and you have until November 4 to book. ✈️🐧

This is expedition travel, not a regular cruise. Small ships, 100 passengers or fewer. Seasoned expedition teams. Veteran captains who know how to read ice, weather, and wildlife. The itineraries are built around what's actually out there. Polar bears on Svalbard sea ice, penguin colonies in Antarctica, Polynesian navigation traditions that predate modern sailing by centuries.

Getting to expedition destinations is often half the battle, and $2,000 per person in air credits takes a real bite out of the total cost.

2027 destinations include Antarctica, the Arctic, Europe, Japan, and the South Pacific. If any of those have been on the bucket list, this offer plus the November 4 deadline are a good reason to stop putting it off.

If you have any flexibility in when you travel, September and October are worth looking at. 💡

After Labor Day, prices drop. Theme park wait times fall. Cruise cabins that were sold out in July open back up. Resorts that were at full capacity in August have availability.

The destinations are the same. Florida is warm but the brutal summer heat has broken. Disney and Universal are decorated for Halloween and fall. The food is seasonal, the events are running, and the parks are half as crowded as they were six weeks ago.

This window lasts until Thanksgiving week, when everything gets expensive and busy again fast.

If you've been waiting for the right time to book, this is it.
