A legend in severe weather news media broadcasting has passed away.

There will only ever be one Gary England - an Oklahoman through and through. He was one of a kind and the impact he had on our state, meteorology and severe weather prediction and tracking will be felt for years and years to come.

I was fortunate to work with Gary and see first-hand how much he cared about keeping Oklahomans safe. We all owe him a debt of gratitude.

My condolences go out to his family and may he rest in peace.

Astonishing detail in this radar display captured by the OU RaxPol team as they scanned the Morton, Texas tornado earlier this afternoon! Amazing seeing the mechanics within this tornado producing monster of a supercell!

You are looking at the best image of a tornado that radar can show you in 2025, in 2-D. This is a 2-D slice in reflectivity (what you’re used to seeing on TV and on apps). Radars can also scan in 3-D, or ‘volumetrically’ but this is a 2-D slice at ULTRA-CLOSE range.

This is from the RaxPol project from OU (my Alma-mater 😉). This was very close to the , Texas wedge tornado today.

You can see the individual structure and circulation of the main tornado vortex and centrifugal bands emanating out from the common center. It looks like a mini-hurricane because many of the same forces are at work, just at different scales. The dynamics of our atmosphere are amazing, and mirror the rotation of earth about its axis.

One of our favorite activity days we have ever done on the tours today! From world class BBQ at Terry Black's Barbecue to hiking an amazing cave at Inner Space Cavern, we are having a blast with our T3 guests even though the weather is not cooperating.
