With love from my Sri Lankan family 🥹

Happy Valentine’s Day & remember that love comes in all forms: romantic, familial, friendship, love for animals, love for the little things & all beings.

I LOVE the family that owns this guesthouse.
📍Sandaru Surffing Inn, Midigama

Aunty helps us cook, teaching us Sinhala, Sandaru my 12 yr old surf coach and local guide, Amma holding defending the home from monkey invasions with rocks, Uncle serenading us & driving us around, Sadish our risk manager & scooter driver, and obviously Nicolas my hilarious anarchic French roommate.

Were this makeshift family who laughs till we cry, dance, eat well, celebrate life, and connect in a very deep and real way.

Here’s to a love without borders, judgements, assumptions, and conditioning.

Here’s to a love that’s infinitely generous, abundant, ever-giving, unconditional, and comes from the deepest part of the heart❤️

These people are my world ❤️🫶 I am so thankful to know and experience such generous souls here in Sri Lanka 🥹

This comment is a thought that that’s running through the back of my mind all the time. I travel to experience different cultures, not to be bombarded by English breakfast sets and posh coffees.

And sometimes I want a posh coffee, a fkn pint and, an English brekky set. And I don’t judge myself for that.

Cause I think it’s all a balance. Personally, I don’t think it’s horribly wrong with wanting to get a Matcha or an iced coffee and connect to other foreigners about their experiences here in Weligama, Sri Lanka.

In my experience, I love a place where there’s a blend of locals and foreigners. I think it brings a really interesting mix of cultures and people.

And honestly, what’s so wrong about having unique fancy cafés here in Sri Lanka where they’re adding their own twist to something that we cherish so much in the West. Like do we not think that they are allowed to have that? Why can’t they? If it’s done responsibly, then why not?

So if your looking for more culture, here’s How to find local places in Weligama, Sri Lanka:

Biggest and most obvious way: get off the main road! Go inland. You will see and explore local markets where locals go to shop, eat, buy groceries like Global Shopping. Near the train station here it already has that raw feeling, so just turn left or right to keep exploring culture.

Literally take any inland road and soon you will find rice patty fields, peacocks, water buffalos, monkeys, cows, parrots, gardens, Buddha stupas, mosques, and a slowed down relaxed and connected sense of life.

I hope this helps you to travel in a more real way & follow for more ways to travel responsibly.

This is where I finally exhaled.

Foozoo Mantra is an 100 year old heritage villa in Weligama, Sri Lanka, and staying here genuinely changed how I see relationship.

Lush tropical gardens, cozy & spacious rooms, homemade food cooked fresh everyday, this is the kind of stillness where you forget what day it is.

But what really got me was the people.

Vish and I went to go surf like we’d been friends forever. Sandu noticed what I needed before I said anything. Dinesh paving the way for sustainable business here in Sri Lanka.

And that’s when I realized that this is how they do everything here.

Friends first. Business second.

Slow down. Listen. Take care of each other.

They’re not just running a guesthouse. They’re preserving something that Sri Lanka has always been, a culture of genuine hospitality, community, connection, and deep care for eachother.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Weligama that actually feels like home, save this 📍

I literally have no idea when my next paycheck is coming, but I believe in myself and I know and trust that it will come really soon.

Never in my life have I felt so certain that THIS is exactly where I am meant to be.

I’m having incredible conversations everyday about entrepreneurship, creating opportunity, travel, business, systemic issues, NGOs, bias, stigmatism, cricket, camping, surfing, political systems, history, relationships, psychology, family systems, so many more unique topics.

I feel my brain growing and it’s something I’d never get to experience if I stayed in my hometown, took a stable job, and just followed the status quo.

Yes this is a risk but I just know it will work out.

So this is ur sign to go for it: start a business, sell your skills, create a business, solve someone’s problems, travel the world, and do what u want.

It’s rly so simple u just gotta keep believing in yourself

🥰

I was asked what’s been the most eye-opening things I’ve learned about traveling so far.

For me, it’s learning the realities people have lived through.

In Sri Lanka, during the civil war and LTTE in power, ports were cut off and food systems were disrupted. Families, children, entire villages faced intense food insecurity. Access to something as basic as nourishment became uncertain.

In Bangkok, hearing the stories of bar girls, and their wages, the impacts to their physical health, and sometimes risking their life to preform.

It’s hard for me to find a silver lining in any world issue. Yes, there is resilience. Yes, there is community and strength which is so important.

But there is also injustice, inequality, exploitation. There are systems that fail people. There are stories most of us never hear.

Travel has shown me that the world is both breathtaking and deeply sad.

The question I’m left with is: once I see it… what can I do with this awareness?

Would love to hear your thoughts, advice, suggestions. Thx for watching and caring 🫶

POV: you try a mat Pilates class at

slow, mindful moment, combined with strong controlled reps teach you how to move your body with intention.

started in Colombo, changing how fitness is done here in Sri Lanka. Less trendy, more intentional strength building.

Woman-owned and locally operated, they’re bringing the same vision to Weligama, with highly qualified instructors trained locally and abroad.

When you move here, you’re not just taking a random fitness class, you’re 100% supporting local businesses and community growth.

So give it a try!! Mat Pilates is great for all levels & beginners, and you don’t have to be super flexible, just have to be willing to challenge yourself and try something new 💪🧘🏼‍♀️💫
