Mates:
This position encompass a wide range of responsibilities beyond boat-handling and seamanship including: overseeing the crew, maintenance of vessel machinery and systems, vessel cleaning, and administration of company safety, environmental, security, and personnel policies. Qualifications: 100 Gross Ton License, TWIC, First Aid/CPR/AED and Enrollment in our Random Drug Testing Program. Radar Unlimited Certificate with ARPA is a plus as well as experience working on fast ferries.

Deckhands:
Responsible for working under the direction of the Captain of the vessel including passenger safety, line-handling, docking and un-docking the vessel, cleaning, loading of passengers, emergency response, safety drills, vessel manning responsibilities some light mechanical maintenance. Qualifications: A great attitude and an outgoing personality. Must be 17 years or older, boating/sailing experience is a plus. First Aid/CPR/AED certification and participation in our Random Drug Testing Program are required.

During the last 5 years Interstate Navigation has been telling the Town of New Shoreham and the PUC there is no demand for additional fast ferry service while fighting our proposed Quonset to Block Island service. All the while they have been planning this new fast ferry for the past 2-years. This big new ferry will be displacing local fisherman in the Port of Galilee by taking up more dock space.

The Block Island Ferry is seeking a new boat for its fleet. A public hearing will be held Thursday on the matter.
