Early in my teleprompter career, I had the privilege of working with
Al Trautwig a few times. He was kind, funny and a laid back guy. He was one of my first "real" experiences with working within the world of sportscasting and sports personalities.

One of the first things he said to me, jokingly "I USED to be a redhead once". Considering he had pretty much no hair left, he was pretty spot on.

He had a sense of humor. He would yell "prompter!!" as a joke when he flub a line and for a while, Al's voice was an everyday experience as Al let Bret record him and he used that for a while as his text message notification for work.

Sadly, I didn't get to work with him again but he was someone I would have worked with again in a heartbeat.

Rest in peace, Al. Thanks for making a newbie-ish prompter op's job a fun and memorable one.
