Me: “I’m just going to read one more chapter…” 📚

Also me 10 minutes later: closes my book in the middle of the best part because I just get to plan someone’s dream Viking adventure. 😂

One minute I’m completely invested in fictional worlds and book boyfriends…

The next I’m researching Viking villages, breathtaking fjords, hidden gems, and building an itinerary I know someone will never forget.

Honestly… I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤️

That’s probably why my pages are called The Booked Life—one part books, one part booking unforgettable adventures. 📚✈️

Now… if you’ll excuse me, I have a Norway itinerary to finish… and a book that’s patiently waiting for me to come back. 😂

I’ve spent the last few days making memories, eating way too much good food, exploring some incredible places, and doing a little “research” (it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it 😉).

And honestly? If all you need is a hotel room, you can absolutely do that yourself.

But vacation planning is about so much more than where you sleep at night.

✈️ One thing I’ve learned from traveling with my family…

I still remember our first Disney World trip.

We were at Magic Kingdom and it rained almost the entire day. Not a little drizzle either—it poured.

At first, it felt like the trip was ruined. We had spent all this time planning and saving for the trip, and now we were walking around completely soaked.

But something funny happened.

The crowds started leaving.

Ride wait times dropped.

We ended up riding every ride we wanted to ride, and instead of worrying about the weather, we embraced it.

At one point we were so soaked that we ended up buying dry clothes in the park, so the whole family was suddenly decked out head-to-toe in Disney gear. 😂

The kids jumped in puddles.

We laughed about being completely drenched.

And years later, that’s what we remember.

Not the weather forecast.

Not the schedule.

Not what time we got on each ride.

We remember the puddles, the laughter, our unexpected Disney outfits, and making the best of a situation that could have easily ruined the day if we had let it.

That rainy day ended up becoming one of our favorite vacation memories.

That trip taught me something:

I refuse to spend my vacations chasing the “perfect” vacation.

I don’t stress if:

❌ We don’t see every attraction

❌ We skip something people say we “have to do”

❌ The weather isn’t perfect

❌ The kids get tired and need a break

❌ Plans change unexpectedly

❌ We decide to slow down and do nothing at all

Because years later, nobody remembers the perfectly planned itinerary.

They remember:

❤️ The laughs

❤️ The unexpected moments

❤️ The inside jokes

❤️ The first experiences

❤️ The memories made together

The older I get, the more I realize that travel isn’t about seeing everything.

It’s not about perfect weather.

It’s not about the perfect itinerary.

It’s about being together and making memories.

Sometimes the best part of a vacation is the part you never planned. ❤️

🏨 How I Choose Resorts For My Family (And My Clients)

One thing I’ve learned after traveling with my family is that the “best” resort isn’t always the most expensive one.

When I’m researching resorts, I don’t start with the fanciest pools or prettiest photos.

I look for things that actually impact the vacation experience:

✔ Clean, well-maintained rooms

✔ Family-friendly atmosphere

✔ Convenient location

✔ Good food options

✔ Positive guest reviews

✔ Pools and activities my kids will actually enjoy

✔ Hidden fees and extra costs

✔ Transportation options

One of the biggest mistakes travelers make is choosing a resort based solely on pictures. A beautiful resort doesn’t always mean it’s the right fit for your family.

A resort that’s perfect for a honeymoon might be miserable with young kids. A resort that looks amazing online might have long transportation times, crowded pools, or extra fees that add up quickly.

The goal isn’t to find the “best” resort.

The goal is to find the best resort for YOUR family.

Because at the end of the day, your vacation should be about making memories—not dealing with surprises.

🚗 Sometimes the best vacations are only a few hours away.

When people think about travel, they often picture flights, passports, and weeks of planning. But some of my family’s favorite memories have been made on trips that were just a short drive from home.

A weekend at the beach.

A cabin in the woods.

A waterpark resort.

A quick trip to explore a new city.

A couple nights away can be enough to break up the routine, reconnect as a family, and create memories you’ll talk about for years.

As much as I love planning big adventures, I’ve learned that travel doesn’t have to be extravagant to be meaningful.

Sometimes the goal isn’t to go farther.

It’s simply to go.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that vacations have to cost thousands of dollars to be worth taking. The reality is that there are amazing destinations within driving distance of almost every family.

The laughter in the car.

The late-night conversations.

The excitement of discovering somewhere new.

Those moments matter just as much as the destination itself.

Whether it’s a Caribbean getaway, a theme park adventure, or a weekend road trip, the memories are what you’ll remember long after the trip is over.
