Today, the BLM GROUP USA Team stands at attention this Memorial Day, saluting those who have fallen while serving. To respect their bravery and dedication, our applications team made a special piece to honor these military personnel.

The battlefield cross is a symbol that represents the military personnel’s sacrifice and their final rest. The boots at the base refer to their final march. The downward-facing weapon signifies that they fell while serving. Placed atop the weapon, the helmet represents the military personnel’s final duty and the end of their service. Made of four layers composed of brass, stainless steel, aluminum and copper, the layers give the piece depth in a way that makes the metal sheets truly take the shape of art.

“As much as we enjoy making these pieces, we take even more pride in doing so to honor those who have served our country,” says Chris Paetzke, sheet laser applications engineer. “This is a small way for us to show our appreciation and respect for those in mourning today.”

This week, the BLM GROUP USA Team collaborated with a Miami-based customer to showcase the capabilities of their new LT8.20 and LS7 with automation laser cutting machines. Local companies gathered for demonstrations of weldless cut-bend fixtures with drill and tap threading on the tube laser and the 24/7 seamless productivity of the sheet laser. From the warm reception of the event, there’s definitely a bright future for metal fabrication in Southern Florida.

Field Application Specialist, Nathaniel Klebe, illustrates how ArTube and our LT8.20 tube laser can help new design ideas come to life.

ArTube’s adhesive feature allows even 2D designs to be placed around a tube in a continuous fashion. Our proprietary Active Speed technology enables our machines to automatically modulate cutting parameters so that even when processing feature-dense, small tubes there is no concern for overheating or blow-through. Combined with Active Tilt, which uses the cutting head to accelerate up to peak processing speed 5 times faster than moving the material with the chuck, we are able to achieve cuts that are on the “cutting edge” of quality and speed.

From aerospace to automotive, 5-axis laser cutting is gaining more and more ground due to the flexibility of the systems and the ability to cut deep-drawn profiles, hydroformed parts, stamped sheet metal or already bent tubes.

Complex three-dimensional parts can be cut with the 5-axis laser, reaching even the most difficult places with the manipulation robot: a great advantage for those working with small batches or many prototypes. With the manipulation robot, there is no need to create dedicated fixtures for each profile.
