✈️Flying with children✈️
Always take time to talk your children through the process; ease their minds and assure them it will not be like Home Alone 2!😆
📌Preparing:
-Be sure to have travel documents & IDs. Check with your travel agent if your children need an ID or passport, based on destination.
-Pack snacks & empty water bottles to fill up after security.
-Have a spare set of clothing for everyone in carry-on bags. Spill, accidents, & delays do not discriminate by age.
-Entertainment- download movies & apps ahead of time, have well fitting headphones & chargers in your personal item-easy to reach.
-Comfort: Think neck pillows, blankie, comfy clothes (maybe even sweatshirt as planes can sometimes be cold) and comfy shoes.
-Most of the time you can seat your family together, but for larger families, explain the seat maps to kids ahead of time to share with them where they are sitting in relation to the adults in the family.
📌At the airport:
-Double check what is and isn’t allowed to make getting through security easier. www.tsa.gov is a great tool to find out how to pack certain items.
-Don’t rush- if you are stressed, they’ll be stressed.
-Most airlines allows you to gate check a stroller and/or car seat if needed.
-Explain what security is---to keep us all traveling safe!
📌Flights:
-For school aged kids, independence starts to shine. Let them carry their own backpack. Explain the schedule, what airport your changing planes at, and set expectations early so they understand what the experience will be like during the flight.
-Delays happen…keep essentials in reach and pack your patience.
-KINDNESS COUNTS! Flying is stressful for everyone- a little empathy goes a long ways!
-Have suckers or gum handy to help with balancing air pressure in ears.
📌Once Landed:
-Have ground transportation plans ready.
-Give everyone a minute; stretch, snack, fresh air. -Transfer moods from travel mode to vacation mode!
