Douglas-Fir Trees, are the kind that we climb at AdventureTerra!

Not only are they super strong and stable, enough to hold us for centuries to come, but they also host a variety of life in their canopy, being home to many endangered species.
Their bark rocks, it's fire-resistant to medium-sized fires, protecting the old-growth forests from burning to the ground.

There is so much moisture in old-growth forests that their climate is always a bit wetter and cooler than the surrounding areas, which is another reason why a lot of well- developed old-growth forests don't burn too frequently!

Have YOU tried Douglas Fir Needle Tea?

Very cheap tea to bring you some sunshine on a rainy day, or even a sunny day! Collect some Douglas Fir needles and make some tea today, add some honey if you wish!

During climbs I'd encourage you to pick a few needles and chew on them, they are quite potent raw, but delicious as a tea!

What about mushrooms now?

EVERYTHING!!! Mushrooms are such a crucial part of a healthy forest, the mycelial network allows trees to get more nutrients that help it become STRONG, and they allow for the tree to communicate through the network. They say communication is key!

What do mushrooms get? They get carbs from the tree, which they can't produce themselves, so this is a win-win! And mushrooms WOULD care about the health of the forest, it just makes sense that they do so much for it!

Anyways, I like to focus on the Douglas Fir trees here on this account because those are the trees we have relationships with! As a tree climbing company, we regularly trust these trees to hold us and love us while we climb into their wonderful canopy. It is special to be able to know and understand what is happening past the sight of our eyes, making the trees even more wonderful, special, and unknown in our eyes!

Tree + Rock Climbing Kids Camp dates are OUT!

This summer, a five-day camp is happening at AdventureTerra, on Lopez Island. Your kid will come home at the end of the night tired, fulfilled, and excited to share with you what they have learned. They will make new friends, learn new things, and have LOADS of fun!

What a view, but where's the climber?

The San Juan Islands are gorgeous, Lopez Island in particular (because you can tree climb here, obviously!). Taking the ferry out to these islands is magic! Book yourself a trip to Lopez Island this summer, and definitely include a tree climbing tour in the mix!

Trees bark, did you know?

Trees' bark can withstand small to medium-sized forest fires, helping protect the ancient trees that provide so much life in the forest. These days, when there has been so much forest fire prevention for decades, the undergrowth buildup is insane! With so much undergrowth buildup, it's acting as tinder for old-growth forests. Burning whole ancient forests to the ground in one sweep.

Maybe old-growth trees are smart enough to make 5 foot thick bark! Will that withstand the fires these days?
