When or if you watch sports today pay close attention to the words of the National Anthem. It was 210 years ago imprisoned on a British Man of War in Baltimore Harbor, Francis Scott Key at “Dawn’s Early Light” saw the Stars and Stripes still flying from the mast of a flagpole in Fort McHenry after a continuous bombardment by the British. The New Republic survived this British excursion and has flourished those 210 years. Hoping you enjoy your freedom today, mostly thanks to our military keeping us safe. God Bless America. The Summer of 2022 is upon us and visitors will be flocking to our lovely SE North Carolina beach towns; Caswell Beach, Oak Island, and Southport. Should you be coming this way please be advised that NC 211 is being widened from 2 to 4 lanes from Midway Road to Southport. Construction is expected to take 2 years to complete the approximate 8 mile road. Use extreme caution, watch for workers in the road, observe speed limits and expect some delays. In the Oak Island area there have been 4 deaths recently from speeding and reckless driving.

Lots of changes in the area particularly in the food service industry. Many familiar restaurants have changed hands and new ones opened in their place. Fish House on west end is now A beer pub, Long Rider. Turtle Island is closed with new/old owners bringing new vibe to the place. Jones Seafood has new owners as well and Thai By The Sea is becoming Fixins. Russell’s has new name and Beans’s is Long Beach Diner who also manage Wildlife Cafe. In old Swain’s is new food service, there is new restaurant 49th Street Pub and a noodle and Ice Cream Place in Old Dominoes. The bar Sun Dogz next door has new owners. That is just Oak Island.

Many of the restaurants on Oak Island Southport have changed hands or have closed. Here is a list. Fish House on West end closed rumor has it the Mrs owner’s will be putting in a brew pup. Many remember Blue Water Point Marina, Motel in this location but Hurricane Florence destroyed both, curios to see the transformation. Next Jones Seafood is undergoing renovation for it’s third ownership Salt 64 is coming opening soon. Pirates Deck still closed still hoping to reopen. 49th Street Bar is open on Se49th Street doing good business. Oasis on River Road along with Dry Street Pub both reportedly for sale, rumors of Bella Cochina continue to swirl. Thai By the Sea closed heard new owners. Duffers Grill closed for a while now reopened. Thai Peppers in Southport sold new ownership and direction unknown. So just a few of the many changes in the area.

Pretty windy hwere Friday and Saturday the temp fell to upper 20s. Lots going on here 2 Brewpubs in the works, old businesses changing hands, sand being placed on Wesr End of Oak Island. Everyone gearing up for St. Patrick’s Day.

Some tidbits: Bagel Shop opening soon in New Lowe’s down from Chuck’s Homemade Ice Cream. Chuck’s is expanding to next door with candy shop? 2 New Breakfast Lunch places one on North Howe and the other on Oak Island next to Publix.
