It’s International Nurses Day!

While we hope we never need them, we’re so grateful for them when we do! Nurses are the glue that hold our hospitals, doctor’s offices, rehab centers, nursing homes, and hospice centers together. They are the hard-working, often under-paid medical professionals who are responsible for the welfare, safety and recovery of patients. They are a gentle touch and reassuring smile when we need them most.

Nurses are consummate professionals who make our worst moments just a little bit better. On International Nurses Day, celebrate the countless ways that nurses make our lives better and show your appreciation!

It’s Cinco de Mayo!

Today is May 5th, or Cinco de Mayo in Spanish! It’s a day that commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

In the U.S., we celebrate the culture, achievements, and experiences of those of Mexican descent through food, music, parades, and other festivities.

It’s a great day to take part in local activities or even patronize your local Mexican restaurant. Check your local listing for Cinco de Mayo events happening in your area!

It’s National Superhero Day!

Have you ever been in a risky situation or saved from disaster? Perhaps someone was there at the just the right time to help or perhaps someone chose a career path that allowed him or her to help. Either way, these people are heroes.

A hero can be a neighbor, police officer, friend, teacher, stranger, nurse – the list goes on! Heroes are often in disguise but easily recognized by their selfless actions on behalf of others.

On National Superhero Day, we celebrate heroes (both real and fictional!) Heroes watch out for us, jump in when a situation calls for them, and put themselves in precarious positions to save the day.

Be a hero to someone today and be sure to check out our Weekly Update!

It’s Keep Off the Grass Day

Each April 21st since 2013, we celebrate Keep Off the Grass Day. It’s an odd little holiday dedicated to protecting and preserving our green spaces.

Grass has been maintained and used for decorative and protective purposes since the Middle Ages. In Europe, grass was featured around castles and wealthy homes to allow watchmen to easily see an approaching enemy or create a space for sports and ceremonies – much like today! However, unlike today, grass was typically maintained by using a scythe or grazing animals.

Today we try to keep our lawns and fields looking good by mowing them – and keeping feet from trampling them! On this Keep Off the Grass Day, protect those beautiful blades from too much wear and tear!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Today everyone is just a little bit Irish! Parades, festivals, leprechauns, and shamrocks (and of course the color green) are everywhere as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. But the day actually commemorates the death of St. Patrick (who was actually Roman) more than 1500 years ago.

Today we celebrate St. Patrick and all things Irish on March 17th in both traditional and not-so-traditional ways. Click here to learn more …and have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
