Activity for booking houses is at it's "low" period. This happens every year at this time. The early bird bookers for next summer have already done their thing. Activity will get brisk sometime shortly after Jan 1. There are still great options. If you need a particular week, NOW is the time. There are some very HIGH prices along with REASONABLE prices out there. Bargain pricing is probably a thing of the past. Now is the time if you are looking for REASONABLE. The property values at OIB have skyrocketed the past 3 years, and new owners are trying to pay for them with increased rents, with moderate success. OIB looks to be very busy this summer. The "people" know that even in its most crowded state, it is not like Myrtle Beach, very residential, easy to socially separate on the beach, lots of golf areas, and very peaceful..... also it is a great beach and surf like Myrtle.

Summer 2020 at OIB looks to be a very busy one, at least in our owner-direct group. We have had some C-Vid cancellations, but are re-booking quickly. Otherwise booked for the summer, we had a cancellation a few days ago at one of our premier Ocean Fronts for the Jul 4 week. 6br,6ba, elevator private pool at http://oceanislerentals.com/7cogg.htm This one rents for $9250+tax per week, Sat-Sat. Coronavirus- Summer 2020 - outlook - cancellations ... Well Memorial Weekend is almost here. It looks like the worst fears of vacation owners will not be realized. At least, in our group anyway. After having most everything cancel for April and May, the month of May has suddenly become very active with rentals and many of the cancel dates are filling in. Almost everyone is booked for Memorial Weekend - we do have a couple openings (4 night min) and only a few cancellations for the summer (not due to fear of the virus, but people who unfortunately find themselves with some financial difficulties due to government shutdowns). America is not going to put up with this much longer and we are glad to see it. Our government has done a good job of educating people to improve hygiene and develop good social distancing habits, and America can do this and still live. We are taking a few extra precautions in house cleaning, but the fact is, they were already sanitized anyway as bathrooms and counters are thoroughly sanitized after each guest. One of the benefits of renting direct is that the cleaners are custom cleaners and do a much more detailed job than the Realty Cleaners. For those of you who have experienced both, you know this to be true. Welcome to OIB the summer of 2020. This will be a memorable one for both good and some not-so-good reasons. We look at the good..... America was kicked and survived. And, the beach is always great and is one of the wonderful options where families can have fun and socially separate. There is plenty of space on the beach. Sun-provided Vitamin D is a good thing.

Yesterday mid 70's. Today 57. Heated pool no problem. Heated to 88 degrees. Still warming it till it gets 92. Kids are fine at 88. Amazingly, they do not get cold in the pool or when gettting in and out.

Welcome to OIB. We were just there. Island surprisingly busy. Owners getting ready for the summer. Beach looked great. Did you know? I was reading the other day on an OIB local site about how the island was formed. Everyone I think that is at OIB knows about Hurricane Hazel in the 50's and the impact it had on the island. I did not know that the real estate known as Ocean Isle was a part of the mainland, not an island up until the 1930's. It is not a natural barrier island but a man made so-to-speak. The land was always there, just not an island. It became an island in the 1930's during the depression, when the Intracoastal Waterway was built and at that time became separated from the mainland. Another civil service construction project from the 1930's. Like TVA and many others, Blue Ridge Parkway. No one had a private job, but a lot of public "good" stuff was done during that time, and this was one of the good projects.
