“The Southport–Fort Fisher Ferry takes you across the Cape Fear River and is a fun and scenic way to get to Fort Fisher, Kure Beach and Carolina Beach without driving through Wilmington.

A few things to know before you go:

🚗 Yes, you drive your vehicle right onto the ferry.

🌊 The trip across the Cape Fear River takes about 35 minutes.

📍 The ferry connects Southport and Fort Fisher.

On summer weekends, ferries currently leave Southport throughout the day, beginning at 7:00 AM, with the last departure at 6:15 PM.

Give yourself some extra time during busy summer weekends. Space is limited and popular departure times can fill up.

And keep an eye on the water during the ride. You never know what you might spot!

Schedules can change due to weather, maintenance or other conditions, so always check the current N.C. Ferry System schedule before heading out.”
