From an early age, I was enamored with fabrics and sewing; I made many of my clothes in grammar school and high school. I worked in a fabric store and could barely resist purchasing textiles I later came to realize I’d probably never use.

Today, and for the last 30 years, my passion is homeopathy. I’ve come to recognize that a true investment is not one made for my own pleasure, but for the overall well-being of my family.

I used to smoke ci******es … for years, even. The first time I tried, I felt nauseous.

Well, to be honest, it was more like the first few months that I forced myself to withstand that dreadful feeling.

Such is the power of peer pressure and the silliness of those teenage years. Indeed, peer pressure is what I caution families (and my own kids) against on a regular basis.

The two young boys had simply been watching too much wrestling on TV. The brothers loved to spend hours brawling down in their basement, reenacting the moves of their favorite professional wrestlers. But one evening, when 10-year-old Jason recreated Hulk Hogan’s signature move by slamming his little brother down onto his back against the floor, his brother went limp.

Out cold.

After my horrific experience during my firstborn’s initial “well-baby” visit, my sons never had another pediatrician’s visit. (In case you’re wondering, they have grown up to be healthy, stable, successful adults developing young families of their own.)
