Sometimes the best adventures are the ones you almost sit out.

Maybe your kids talked you into it. Maybe it was the grandkids. Maybe your friends said, “Come on, you’re going with us,” and you wondered whether watching from the sidelines sounded just a little more sensible.

But adventure isn’t necessarily about proving what you can do.

Sometimes it’s simply about not missing the memory.

It’s getting in the raft together. Hearing everyone laugh when the first wave comes over the side. Paddling through the rapids. Getting completely soaked and realizing you don’t care. Maybe even jumping off a rock because, for just a moment, you remember what it felt like to be a kid who never worried about getting wet.

Years from now, nobody will remember whether you paddled perfectly.

They’ll remember that Mom was in the boat.

That Grandpa got soaked.

That Grandma laughed the whole way through the rapid.

That you all did it together.

There are plenty of times in life to stand on the sidelines and take the picture.

Every once in a while, hand the camera to somebody else.

Get in the boat.

What does a perfect September day in Ohiopyle look like?

Maybe it starts with a cool morning and a bike ride along the Great Allegheny Passage, winding through quiet forests, past towering boulders and catching glimpses of the Youghiogheny sparkling through the trees.

Maybe there’s a picnic packed for later.

By afternoon, you’re on the Middle Yough, paddling through the gorge with nowhere you need to be. Stop along the shore. Watch for a bald eagle. Feel a few little splashes. Float for a while and listen to the river, with an occasional train whistle echoing somewhere in the distance.

No rushing. No packed schedule.

Just a beautiful September day in Ohiopyle.

That sounds pretty perfect to us. 🍂

This week on the blog, we’re sharing a different way to experience Ohiopyle this fall.

Leave the chore list on the kitchen counter.

The grass can wait. The garage can wait. The garden can wait. The house will still be there Monday morning.

But summer doesn't wait.

This weekend, Ohiopyle is looking pretty inviting. Sunshine, temperatures in the 80s, the river running through the valley, and that feeling that you really should be outside doing something.

Maybe your day starts with coffee in town and a walk along the river. Maybe you spend the afternoon drifting through the valley on the Middle Yough, laughing your way through the rapids of the Lower Yough, or exploring the trails and waterfalls around Ohiopyle.

And when everyone else starts heading home, you don't have to.

Drive over to Five Pines Campground, pitch a tent, build a fire, and let the evening stretch out a little longer. Sit around the campfire. Listen to the woods. Look up at the stars.

That's a pretty good way to spend a summer Saturday.

The chores will still be waiting.

Summer won't. https://wwaraft.com/

If you've rafted the Lower Yough with us, you've probably heard the whisper of “Upper Yough.”

It usually comes from your guide.

It's the whitewater experience the guides want to run, and getting a seat in the back of an Upper Yough raft isn't something a WWA guide gets to do right away. They have to work their way there. A guide must reach Trip Leader status before qualifying to run the Upper, and some guides take several years to reach that level.

When a guide finally earns that seat, they're bringing all of that experience with them.

So what's up there?

That's what we're talking about in this week's blog.

A big WWA congratulations to Jadyn Frushour, our 2026 Guide of the Year!

As some of the crew gets ready to head out for the year, we rounded up the team for one last cookout, some good food, a lot of laughs, and a chance to celebrate the people who make WWA what it is.

And one of those people deserved a little extra recognition this year.

Jadyn was named our 2026 Guide of the Year, an award recognizing her outstanding customer service, work ethic, and the growth she showed throughout the season.

Jadyn, we’re proud to have you on the WWA team. You’ve put in the work, taken care of our guests, and continued to grow as a guide all season long. Well deserved!

And apparently, the next generation is already checking out what this whole guiding thing is about.

Future guide in training.

Congratulations, Jadyn! We’re glad you’re part of the WWA family.

Good morning from Ohiopyle.

It’s 7:30 on a Saturday, and while you’re still waking up, making coffee, and deciding when to get moving…

We’re already getting ready for you.

Guides are arriving. Boats are being inflated. Manifests are being checked. Helmets, life jackets, and paddles are lined up and ready to go.

The river is already here. The gorge is waiting. And behind the scenes, we’re getting all the little things in place so that when you arrive, you can leave the rest of the day to us.

So take your time with that coffee.

We’ll see you in Ohiopyle.
