Isn’t this the craziest optical illusion of these Roseate Spoonbills 🩷🩷 yesterday!

As one flew in, it makes the other bird look like he has gigantic wings! 🪽 Of course the incoming spoon flew in the opposite direction so I couldn’t capture a “double spoon moment”.

Moments like this don’t just happen, that’s why we love birding. You learn the art of patience, enjoying peaceful surroundings and yes, sometimes seeing magic right before your eyes.

The perfect Lowcountry setting. The beach, a graceful Great Egret. But this photo we took today has so much more detail.

It’s the sea oats 🌾 that protect & stabilize our dune systems, nurture numerous species and most importantly; protect inland areas.

One photo that we took today represents so much.

So you’re “Tough” huh? 🤣

This Coopers Hawk perched on our bluebird nesting box yesterday (from Wild Birds Unlimited), and we knew it was time to head inside for a while. Of course he’s looking for some squirrels 🐿️ , snakes 🐍 , marsh rats 🐀 or smaller birds 🐦 for his next meal.

One more reason NOT to use rodenticide’s, because they can be fatal to beautiful raptors like this Coopers Hawk, who’s just looking for his next meal.

This Northern Parula summed up exactly what my birding day looked like. Lots of looking up! AKA “Warbler Neck”

Huge migration last night of over 5.2M birds, but on the coast there were some steady 20-25mph winds overnight.

Lots of Brown Thrasher, Black Throated Blue Warblers….waiting on more Warblers to arrive for sure.

Did you see anything new today?

Anyone else feeling upside down between the weather & awaiting migration? At least, this White Breasted Nuthatch sure ma...

Anyone else feeling upside down between the weather & awaiting migration?

At least, this White Breasted Nuthatch sure made things entertaining yesterday!

Glimpses of a pretty Prairie Warbler on the hunt for bugs in the leaves.

Bit of a rainout this weekend, but we’ll still be birding by window 🤣 and hopefully be able to get outdoors at some point this weekend. We do need the rain!

The light refraction from this bush really does make this Northern Cardinal look like he has tinges of purple.

We thought it was too pretty not to share.

When this popped up this morning, it was like it was made for The Lowcountry Birding Center. 💙

As we start planning meetings, speaking engagements, looking at properties and more; this sums up how we feel about the culture we want to create. A true community around birding for people who may know nothing about birds to the experts. And a place for birdwatchers to go that’s protected forever. 💙

We are so excited about our future! 🪶
