I was lucky enough to spend the day at Universal Kids Resort JUST before opening day and I wanted to share some notes for families wondering if it's worth a visit!
💦 First things first: you will get wet. And that is a good thing because Texas is hot in the summer! Multiple lands feature splash pads, water play areas, and attractions where getting splashed is part of the fun. I saw lots of families in swimsuits with shorts or coverups. There are also multiple changing rooms and drying areas throughout the park, which was an awesome idea.
🎢 Ride Lineup
Family Coasters
• Rhonda's TrollsFest Express – 9/10 ⭐ Fun, colorful, and a great starter coaster. My only complaint is that it's short! BUT is probably the perfect length for a first time coaster rider.
• Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster – 8/10 ⭐ Another great family coaster. Slightly less intense than TrollsFest Express (to me) and also over very quickly.
Slow Ride
• Shrek & Fiona's Happily Ogre After – 3/10 ⭐ The attraction had some operational and audio issues during my visit, so I'm hoping it's still being fine-tuned.
Water Rides
• Bello Bay Cruise – 10/10 ⭐ My favorite attraction of the day! You do spin a bit, but it was packed with silly Minion moments and plenty of opportunities to get wet. It was my favorite of the day!
• Bobbing Barrels- I did not ride this one due to the spinning :)
Other Attractions
I skipped the following because spinning rides and I are not friends BUT many smiling faces of people getting off each one:
• Bello Bay Golf Cart Derby
• Hair in the Clouds
• Jellyfish Fields Jamboree
• Mr. DNA's Double Helix Spin
• Mrs. Puff's Boating School
• Barnacle Bus
• Swings Over Del Mar
There's also a small drop ride called Pteranodrop.
🎭 Shows
• Mama Luna's Adopt a Kitty Day! – 10/10 ⭐ Silly and funny.
• Trollstastic: Concert Countdown – 10/10 ⭐ Interactive, energetic, and featured popular characters.
• King Trollex Techno Dance Party – I didn't catch this one, but the clips I've seen look adorable!
📸 Character Meet & Greets
During my visit I saw:
• SpongeBob & Patrick
• Poppy and Branch
• Baby Raptor Meet & Greet
• Minnion's
I didn't catch Shrek & Fiona, but they are also scheduled to appear.
🍔 Food & Amenities
• Food was good and priced about how I'd expect for a Universal park.
• The refillable mug is IMO of great value!
• Bathrooms are located near most attractions. So many!
• Multiple sensory gardens throughout the park. This park is officially a Certified Autism Center. This means that more than 80% of team members have received specialized training, and all attractions feature specific sensory ratings so families know exactly what to expect.
• Plenty of shade and seating areas.
• The park layout is very easy to navigate and completely walkable.
Overall, the park is clearly designed with younger children in mind. The splash areas, family attractions, character interactions, and thoughtful family-friendly amenities were what stood out most during my visit.
If you live within a few hours of Frisco, TX and have young children, it's worth a visit for sure.
