Carry-On Essentials for Long-Haul International Flights
The Hill Guys Travel recommends the following carry-on items for long, overnight flights.
TO COMBAT EXTENDED CABIN PRESSURIZATION PROBLEMS:
• Wear compression socks to prevent leg swelling and deep-vein thrombosis (DVT)... put them on before boarding
• Lip balm
• Nasal spray to keep sinuses from drying out (we recommend using Ayr Saline Nasal Gel every two hours for best results)
• Hand lotion
• Eye glasses, contact lenses case & solution so you can remove contact lenses
COMFORT, CLEANLINESS & HEALTH:
• Dress in layers as you never know what the temp will be in your part of the plane
• Medications
• Any special dietary needs
• Favorite snacks
• Sanitizing wipes for your face, hands, tray & surfaces
• Hand sanitizing gel
• Kleenex
• Peppermint candy or mints --- Great for indigestion, nausea, clearing blocked ears & bad breath after 8 hours on a plane
• Chewing gum to clear your ears on descent
• Motion sickness prevention medication or wearables
• Light sweater, jacket or long-sleeve shirt in case it's extra cool onboard
• Inflatable airplane pillow
• Sleeping mask
• Ear plugs
• Toothbrush, toothpaste and/or mouthwash
• Cologne/perfume
• Makeup
• Personal sanitary items
ENTERTAINMENT:
• Wired ear buds that plug in for watching the onboard TV and movies (wireless won't work without a special adapter plug)
• Charging cord for your devices
• Battery pack for charging your devices
• Reading glasses
• Games on your phone
• Books & magazines for reading
• Game books with pens/pencils
• Deck of cards
TIP: We recommend packing all smaller items in a quart or gallon-size Ziploc bag in your carry-on so that you can easily pull it out and place in your seat pocket when you board (instead of having to get up in the aisle, find and dig individual items out of the carry-on later on).
