Next we headed to Italy to visit the Puglia region, located in the heel of the boot. We reached the easternmost side of Italy, and off in the not too far distance we could see the mountains of Albania.

We visited the Masseria Valente olive grove in Ostuni. The grove had many “monumental trees”dating back 1000 years. Of course, I had to bring back several bottles of their olive oil.

Our first stay was at Masseria Torre Coccaro. Located in Savelletri di Fasano. We loved our stay for a few nights here. I hope to go back someday.

We spent the second part of the trip in the Casicais/Estoril area of Portugal.

The Azores are located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and are part of Portugal. Nine islands, I visited one, Sao Miguel and stayed on the western side in a very small town called Mosteiros where saw the most amazing sunsets.

There is so much to do- hiking, whale watching and sightseeing. Everywhere you look is amazing. I suggest definitely renting a car if you’re up for handling the curving roads or you could let someone else do the driving and take a tour.

My cruise on Oceania’s ship the Riviera was wonderful. The food was amazing and the ship was the perfect size.

✨The smaller ship allowed us to get into ports that the mega cruise ships cannot get into. This is small ship luxury cruising at its best.

✨I also love that we were able to visit 8 ports on this 12 day cruise. We visited-
Ketchikan
Icy Strait Point (Hoonah)
Haines
Juneau
Sitka
Wrangell
Klawock
Victoria, British Columbia

I don’t know why I waited so long to visit Alaska. It’s so amazing to see all of Gods handiwork.

I’ve seen whales, so many eagles, a few bears. Took a raft down the Chilkat River, canoed as close as you can get to see the Mendenhall Glacier by water, took a boat as close as allowed to see Hubbard Glacier which happens to be the only glacier continuing to grow. Unfortunately the others are melting and not building back.

This is a wonderful trip that you can take at any age. I’m doing this all on Oceania Cruises ship, The Riviera. What a beautiful ship and only holds a max of 1250 passengers. We can get into smaller ports that the big ships can’t. It’s one of the best ways to see Alaska.

I really don’t know what to say about this trip but if you can you must do it. Incredible wildlife viewing, wonderful lodging and delicious food. And the people are amazing. We’ve loved our guides and trackers. They’ve taken us on some amazing drives.
