Day 2: Seligman, Route 66 Treasures, and Our Arrival at the Grand Canyon
We woke up at the historic Route 66 Motel in Seligman, Arizona, ready for another day exploring America’s Mother Road. Our first stop was just across the street at Westside Lilo’s Cafe, where I ordered yet another Route 66 chicken fried steak. At this point, I’m convinced it’s becoming an official requirement of the trip!
Fueled up and ready to go, we made our way to Commodore Coffee for an iced caramel macchiato. I hate to say it, Starbucks, but this little Route 66 coffee shop may have won me over. It was absolutely delicious and exactly what I needed for the road ahead.
From there, we headed west to one of my favorite stops along Route 66, Hackberry General Store. Nestled in the middle of the Arizona desert where cell service disappears and time seems to stand still, Hackberry perfectly captures the spirit of the Mother Road. We always make a point to support these historic Route 66 businesses. Every souvenir, snack, and cold drink helps keep these iconic roadside stops alive for future travelers.
After browsing the vintage signs, classic cars, and Route 66 memorabilia, we turned around and headed back to Seligman to finish exploring town, do a little more shopping, and grab all those classic Route 66 photos. We didn’t get the chance to meet Angel Delgadillo this time, but there’s always next trip!
As the afternoon turned into evening, we made our way to Williams, often called the Gateway to the Grand Canyon. Dinner was at Historic Brewing Company, and it was fantastic. Between the flavorful food and locally crafted brews, I was enjoying myself so much that I almost forgot to take photos. That’s usually the sign of a great meal!
With full stomachs and tired feet, we completed the final leg of the day’s journey and arrived at the legendary El Tovar Hotel. There’s something special about staying at a historic hotel perched on the edge of one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. After a long day of Route 66 adventures, it was the perfect place to settle in for the night.
Tomorrow, we trade neon signs and roadside nostalgia for breathtaking canyon views as we spend the day exploring the beauty of the Grand Canyon South Rim. Stay tuned! 🌵🚗🏜️🏞️✨
