Anyone else an orange bird fan?🧡🙌
Just me?…. I WISH they’d bring him back- look how cute ?!!!
This is from Days Gone Disney… if you don’t follow them, and are a Disney Fan or Disney history geek like me … you should absolutely look them up!
🍊Do you feel that the nostalgic 𝗢𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱 character should have a more prominent presence in the Magic Kingdom❓Perhaps daily “meet and greets” or appearances in parades? 🤔
The Orange Bird, created in the early 1970s by Disney in collaboration with the Florida Citrus Commission, was designed to promote Florida’s citrus industry at Walt Disney World. Debuting in 1971 in Adventureland’s Sunshine Pavilion, the Orange Bird featured prominently in the Tropical Serenade (now Enchanted Tiki Room) and the Sunshine Tree Terrace, where citrus-themed snacks were sold.
Designed by Disney legend Bob Moore, the character was unique for its silent communication through orange smoke thought balloons. The Sherman Brothers, famous for their Disney songs, created tunes and jingles for the Orange Bird, including “The Orange Bird Song.”
The character enjoyed popularity throughout the 1970s and 1980s, appearing in various media to promote citrus products. However, its presence diminished by the mid-1980s as the Florida Citrus Commission sponsorship ended.
In 2012, the Orange Bird was revived at the Sunshine Tree Terrace, reintroducing nostalgic elements to the park. New merchandise featuring the character was also released, appealing to both old fans and new guests.
