Want to travel abroad? I want to take around six-twelve people to Colombia for a week this spring break/summer. Traveling to another country in another continent is usually very expensive, right? To get to Europe it costs around $1000, for example. Well, I'll get you to my region in Colombia (a UNESCO World Heritage Cite-- The Coffee Growing Axis) for around $360 (what a domestic flight costs). Everything else will be extremely cheap (a delicious, healthy, substantive meal is around 8000 pesos/3.5 dollars), especially now that the dollar is quite strong.
I am not going to profit from this, at least not financially. So, why am I doing it? One, I know you'll love it. Two, most people always say "I want to travel abroad" but rarely ever do it because of time, money, and fear. I want to help break that spell. And third, because I want to make this an affordable, reoccurring trip for Knights and their friends. I want to learn from the first group as much as I can.
The total cost? It will vary, but I assure you if you allocate a grand for it (including airfare) you'll have money left over. I can also help provide low-interest loans that can be repaid once your financial aid comes in in the Fall.
What will we do and is it safe?
As safe as the U.S. I'll attach a few pictures of places you'll see. Before deciding exactly what we'll do, I would like to have a chat in person with everyone. Most likely we would spend a day in the country's capital, Bogotá, go hiking in the Andes for a night, visit colonial-era towns, go paragliding and maybe even fly on an ultralight, visit the well-known Parque del Café, horseback riding, zip-lining, and much much more. You will find that the best part of this world are the landscapes, the people, and the food.
Even though I usually travel backpacking, this will be a very comfortable trip. On note that comes to mind: If you have T-Mobile you'll have Internet and messaging in Colombia.
