It’s a Disney World… it’s going to rain. ☔️

Especially during Florida’s rainy season (roughly June through October), afternoon thunderstorms are almost a daily occurrence. Don’t let the forecast ruin your vacation, plan for it instead! Most storms pass eventually, and with a little preparation, they don’t have to ruin your day!

Here are my favorite rain day tips:

☔️ Pack ponchos before you go.
Buy a bulk pack on Amazon and toss a few in your park bag. You’ll save a ton compared to buying them in the parks, and you’ll always be prepared!

🌂 Bring compact umbrellas.
We never travel to without ours! They’re perfect for those quick rain showers and also provide some much needed shade from the Florida sun.

💡 Pro Tip: When going through security, take your umbrellas out of your backpack and remove them from their sleeves. Hold them in your hand in front of you while walking through security to help avoid getting pulled into the bag check line.

🎢 Don’t want to get soaked? Leave before everyone else does.
As soon as you hear that first clap of thunder, consider making your way toward transportation before the masses do. Grab a snack or head back to your resort for a break, then return once the storm moves through.

🎟️ Lightning Lane users, don’t panic!
If your Lightning Lane attraction temporarily closes due to weather, you’ll typically receive a Multiple Experiences pass in the My Disney Experience app. That pass can usually be used later on that attraction or another eligible attraction once operations resume.

🎭 Use the rain to your advantage.
Many guests leave the parks when it starts raining, which can actually mean shorter wait times once the storm passes. If you don’t mind getting a little wet, this can be one of the best times to knock out some popular rides!

🏰 Have an indoor backup plan.
Shows, indoor attractions, shopping, reserved table service meals, are great ways to wait out a storm without feeling like you’ve lost part of your vacation.

📱 Keep electronics dry.
A simple gallon size zip top bag is perfect for protecting your phone, portable charger, and wallet if you get caught in a downpour.

💦 Wear the right shoes.
Skip the cotton socks if possible. Waterproof sandals or quick drying athletic shoes are much more comfortable after an afternoon shower and bring extra shoes to keep at your resort to swap out!

At Disney World, rain is just part of the adventure. Plan for it, stay flexible, and don’t let a little Florida weather steal the magic!
