Happy pride month! Just a notice and a reminder that you are safe and respected on the water with me. All are welcome and I will respect your pronouns ❤️ 🌈

Just as biodiversity in our natural world leads to balanced and thriving ecosystems, The Maritime Aquarium believes that the differences in our society should be celebrated: that gender identity, sexual orientation, and pride in our diversity allows the world (and our ocean!) to flow towards a more sustainable, flourishing, and brighter future.

When is the best time of year to see dinoflagellate bioluminescence in Florida?

RIGHT NOW!

The algae that creates the amazing glow loves warm water and lots of sunshine.. since the Indian River lagoon is so shallow in most places, the water warms fast and the sunlight gets through the water column.

It’s such an incredible thing to witness and I love to teach my guests all about it!

Book direct on my website and use code “local” to save 10%! You can also find me on trip advisor, with a badge of excellence.

I’m the only outfitter in the world that brings a lab grade microscope into the field on select nights so you can really see the tiny single celled organism responsible for the bioluminescence with your own eyes 👀

I do have a discount for BYOK and I’m happy to set up private group tours for students and organizations. Just send me a message!

Let’s get you out there!

My guests last night got to enjoy a rocket launch before their tour! They were troopers! We had to cut the tour just a little short because a storm rolled in but I monitored the weather the whole time and we still got to make it to the island and back since they were experienced paddlers. They were a fun group with a very talkative little boy that kept me on my toes.

Granger, 6, said “that was the best kayaking ever!”

Look at this cute vial I found to keep my shark teeth in! I love the bullseye section at Target lol

I can’t tag myself 😂 but… if you’ve ever been on a tour with me and asked me how I found this job or why I’m doing it, there’s a 99% chance I cried while telling you. The Indian River Lagoon is my sanctuary and I will do everything I can to give you a piece of my peace. We, me and the water spirits, will be here when you’re ready to be moved..

🌱 Mid-Month Reminder: Eyes on Seagrass Blitz Is Underway! 🌱

The Eyes on Seagrass Blitz in the Indian River Lagoon is in full swing, and there is still time to participate through the end of May.

Have you been out on the water lately? Your photos of the seafloor, whether you see seagrass or not, help scientists better understand where seagrass is growing and where it may be missing.

✅ Boating, kayaking, snorkeling, or fishing
✅ Take a clear photo of the seafloor
✅ Share your observations with the project

Submitting a sighting is easy:
📱 Use the ArcGIS Survey123 app or visit the online form
📍 Make sure location services are turned on
📸 Submit a clear photo so seagrass can be verified

Report your sightings at bit.ly/ReportSeaGrass.

Full instructions and a seagrass ID guide are available here:

The blitz runs May 1–31, so every observation counts. Thank you for helping protect and understand the Indian River Lagoon.
