Lately I've seen travel agents advertising that they give back 30%–50% of their commission as a reason to book with them.
To be clear, this isn't a criticism of anyone's business model. Every travel advisor runs their business differently, and if YOUR primary goal as a consumer is simply to get the lowest possible price, that's a completely valid choice.
But I would encourage travelers to think about what they're really wanting when they choose a travel agent.
If all you're looking for is a discount, I'm probably not the right fit for you.
What I offer is something different. It's a standard.
When you book with me, you're getting years of firsthand destination knowledge, extensive product expertise, meticulous attention to detail, and an advisor who treats your vacation as if it were my own family's trip. You're getting someone who double-checks reservations, monitors promotions, answers questions, advocates on your behalf when things go wrong, and helps you avoid costly mistakes before they happen.
Can I often save you money? Absolutely.
But the value of working with me has never been about giving away the biggest percentage of my income.
The value is in the experience, the expertise, the service, and the peace of mind.
Because when you're investing thousands of dollars and precious vacation time into a trip, the cheapest option isn't always the best value.
