PAUL BUNYAN DAYS is coming up this weekend, so let's take a moment to talk about the big guy who calls OSCODA 'HOME'!

🪚Did you know Paul Bunyan was born right here in Oscoda? Michigan officially recognized Oscoda as the birthplace of the legend in 2006. The earliest known published Paul Bunyan story appeared in the Oscoda Press back in 1906.

💙And then... there is Babe the Blue Ox! Babe became part of the legend in the early 1900's and has been his famous sidekick ever since!

🌲Paul's legendary strength has been credited with creating all kinds of Michigan landscapes in tall tales - including the shape of our Michigan mitten!

👉And here in Oscoda? Paul stands 13 feet tall, keeping watch over Furtaw Field.

Tomorrow, we ask our Oscoda community to pause.

Pause for nearly 3,000 lives lost.
Pause for the families who never got to say goodbye.
Pause for firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members, and countless first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away.

On this 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we will hold a day of silence, reflection, and remembrance.

Take a moment to stop and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. And while we remember the heroes that day, let us also take a moment to thank the first responders who serve our own communities every day. Their courage, sacrifice, and willingness to answer the call should never be taken for granted.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.
We will never forget.
