🎣 ANNOUNCEMENT: Executive Order Authorizing Overnight Fishing at Linear Park 🎣
Effective July 22, 2025, Mayor Robert A. Corradino signed an Executive Order authorizing overnight fishing at the City of Oswego's Linear Park — a change driven by community input directly to City Hall, recent encounters with the Oswego Police Department regarding limitations posed by the local ordinance as well as conversations with Oswego County’s Director of Community Development, Tourism, and Planning, Tim Stahl. The County Tourism Department and the City of Oswego have a long-standing, positive and collaborative relationship. It is with all of the information they provided, along with concerned citizens that the City of Oswego was able to take a careful look at revising the ordinance.
While city parks are generally subject to overnight use restrictions, Linear Park does not fit the typical definition of a “park” in the traditional sense. Given its unique location and direct access to the river, it presents a valuable and safe opportunity for anglers, especially those taking advantage of Oswego's renowned fishing season.
This change came solely as a result of direct contact with the Mayor’s Office and the County Tourism Department by concerned residents and anglers. Their outreach prompted a thoughtful review of the ordinance and its impact. We appreciate the manner in which change was sought out to ensure access to a vital recreational opportunity in our community.
The City is proud to support a solution that balances community access and recreational opportunity with public safety.
Thank you to those who reached out directly — your feedback matters. 🐟
