Update on our high country snow removal (May 14, 2025):
Matt has completed the plowing of Brown Mountain and is moving onto Engineer Pass. Rich has completed the plowing of Yankee Boy Basin and is presently working on the first stretch of Imogene, heading ESE from the Revenue Mine. Please note that none of the high country roads above Senator Gulch will be open to public wheeled vehicles until repairs are completed to the hilfiker wall on Camp Bird Road. Rich will next move onto Corkscrew before he returns to finish Imogene Pass. If all continues to go well, we'll likely double up dozers on Corkscrew Gulch and Imogene Pass to wrap up the effort soonest.
Be sure to look at the annotations corresponding to each road status as they provide more details about the conditions you may encounter.
📣 May is Wildfire Awareness Month! However, we should always be prepared in case of a wildfire. The strong spring winds have been sweeping through the area, and there is potential for a busy fire season. Take the steps to help protect you and your loved ones.
✅ Regularly clear leaves, pine needles and other debris from your deck, roof and gutters.
✅ Rake and remove pine needles and leaves 5 feet from your home.
✅ Store firewood at least 30 feet from your home, preferably uphill, and never on or under your deck.
✅ Move items under your deck or porch to a storage area.
✅ Prune branches hanging over your roof and within 10 feet of your chimney.
✅ Remove flammable material within 6 vertical inches of your home's siding.
✅ Mow grasses to 4 inches or less within 30 feet of your home.
✅ Clear brush, shrubs and other plants withing 10 feet of propane tanks and gas meters.
✅ Screen attic, roof, eaves and foundation vents and wall-in areas below decks and stilt foundations with 1/8-inch metal mesh.
The more you do to prepare and plan ahead, the more likely you home will survive a wildfire.

Ouray has been a special destination for world travelers for more than 100 years. Located in southwest Colorado, Ouray sits at 7,700 feet at the base of the San Juan Mountains. Surrounded on three sides by 13,000 foot snowcapped peaks, Ouray has been known since the 1940s as “The Switzerland of America.”
Ouray was first discovered by the Northern Utes, who considered this hot springs filled valley sacred. The city was incorporated in 1876 during Colorado's silver and gold mining boom and the historic Victorian downtown is now a National Historic District. Two-thirds of Ouray’s original structures survive and are still occupied today, keeping the town’s historic charm intact.
Ouray is home to sulfur-free hot springs, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, historic OHV trails, ghost towns and the world-famous Ouray Ice Park. It sits at the intersection of the San Juan Skyway Scenic and Historic Byway and the Alpine Loop Scenic and Historic Backcountry Byway and is known for the famous "Million Dollar Highway" section of US Highway 550. Ouray is located 75 miles north of Durango, 35 miles south of Montrose and 90 miles south of Grand Junction.
We can’t wait to welcome you to town and help you create your perfect mountain moment!
