🚢 MARYLAND CRUISERS: Should You Pick Your Own Cabin or Let the Cruise Line Choose It? 👀

This is one of those cruise decisions that can save you money, but I want you to understand what you’re giving up for that lower price.

Sometimes you’ll see a cruise fare where you choose the cabin category but the cruise line assigns the actual stateroom later.

That price can look REALLY tempting.

And sometimes I’d absolutely consider it.

But not for everyone.

💰 WHEN I’D CONSIDER LETTING THE CRUISE LINE CHOOSE

If you tell me:

“Brady, I don’t care where I sleep. Get me on the ship for the best value.”

Now we have something to talk about.

This can work especially well for someone who:

🚢 Plans to spend most of the day around the ship

🛏️ Isn’t particular about location

💰 Cares more about the overall price

👫 Doesn’t need cabins together

📍 Is comfortable accepting the location assigned under the fare terms

But here’s the part I want people to understand.

You usually cannot book the cheaper option and then expect to choose the perfect location afterward.

🛏️ WHEN I’D RATHER PICK THE CABIN

I’m paying closer attention if you:

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Need connecting or nearby rooms

♿ Need a particular accessible setup

😴 Are sensitive to noise

🚶 Want to minimize walking

🌊 Care about which side or area of the ship you’re on

🛗 Want to be near or away from elevators

📍 Have a very specific deck or location in mind

Then having control over the cabin can be worth paying more.

💡 HERE’S MY REAL TRICK

Before choosing a cabin, I look at what is:

ABOVE IT

and

BELOW IT.

That beautiful cabin might look perfect on the booking screen.

Then you check the deck plan and discover a busy public venue nearby.

😂 That is information I would rather know BEFORE we book.

I also don’t automatically believe that higher deck means better cabin.

Sometimes I would rather have a well located cabin with passenger cabins above and below me than pay more simply to be higher on the ship.

⚓ MARYLAND & EAST COAST CRUISERS

Whether we’re looking at Baltimore, Cape Liberty, New York, Philadelphia, Norfolk or somewhere farther away, I compare more than the advertised starting price.

Sometimes the guarantee style fare is exactly what I’d choose.

Sometimes I’d tell you:

Spend a little more and pick the room you actually want.

Neither answer is right for everyone.
