Perhaps the wildest safari experience in Africa 🐾🦏🦒🦓🍂

Jakob has been to Tanzania with Jean Du Plessis to experience Africa's wildest and most unique safari - by foot in the Serengeti. He just sent a virtual postcard:

"...I'm on the Serengeti with my family - and in the company of our good friend and partner, Jean, with whom we run Journeys Intent ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜.

Jean is one of the best guides in Tanzania with an unheard-of and unique knowledge of the Serengeti. He has, among other things, spent the past 25 years exploring the vast plain on foot, so he knows exactly where to be to avoid the crowds (of which there's otherwise plenty in the Serengeti!) 👣

We have explored for 5 days almost without seeing anyone else. Instead of people, we've seen animals (lots of them) and gotten close to nature. It's been quite surreal - several times, we've been in the midst of the migration; surrounded by thousands of wildebeests.

I've experienced the migration before, but never like this. Never this wild and beautiful.

We have also been lucky enough to spot one of Serengeti's very few rhinos, which even the guides rarely see 🦏

Of course, we have also seen the more common animals such as lions, cheetahs, large herds of elephants, hippos, and many different antelope species. 🐆🐘🦁🦛🦒🦓🐃

But the greatest experience was to be alone in the raw and wild nature. To experience the bush on foot with no sound of car engines. To search for the animals and not just drive to where you know they are.

Now we are ready for Zanzibar where Chumbe Island's corals and tropical fish are waiting 🪸🐠

The Galapagos island that only few people visit🦩

It takes time to get to Galapagos' Floreana Island. But the trip there is a unique experience in itself.

🐾🦩🦭🦀 ... And when you arrive you mostly have the island to yourself. Apart from the approx. 120 local residents, the sea lion colony, the ghost crabs, and the many pink flamingos in the lagoon.

🌿 - Floreana is a hilly volcanic island with a surprisingly lush highland. On one side the island is raw lava rocks and black volcanic sand, on the other white sand and golden beaches.

🤿 - There are several good places to snorkel directly from the beach or just off Floreana. Especially Devil's Crown, where world-class snorkeling awaits - rays, sea lions, sea turtles, and, if you're lucky, hammerhead sharks.

🏴‍☠️ - And then the history of the island is incredibly interesting with myths about pirates, a wounded baroness, and deadly disagreements. And a post office that dates all the way back to 1783.

💚 - Today, the locals and their lifestyle are a good reason to visit Floreana. The approx. 120 inhabitants live a peaceful and communal life, predominantly based on agriculture and tourism. During COVID the locals closed the island for 2 years and lived from what the island could sustainably give them ♻️

✨ - Very few visitors come to Floreana and those who come are mostly on a day trip or a cruise. Spending the night here is something quite special and almost magical.

⛺️ - There are only a handful of small hotels on the island and we think everyone should stay with Claudio at Lava Lodge. We guarantee a magical experience amid wild and beautiful nature. At the same time, your money makes a difference to the local community in an overlooked corner of the Galapagos 💚♻️

FOOTBALL IN KENYA’S BUSH ⚽️🐘🦓🦒🐆

In October, Jakob was on a safari in Kenya with his family. They saw lots of animals, of course, but a good safari is about many other things than just seeing animals in the wild 🐾

It’s about experiencing the animals, the bush, and life outdoors correctly. And about creating the kind of experiences that everyone in the family remembers 🌟
