Did you know Camila's at the Royal is almost a century old?

Standing proudly at 301 West St. Louis Street, the Royal Theater began as early as 1913, when Lorenz Leber and Henry Hirth began showing silent movies using a hand-cranked projector and folding chairs. Henry married Lorenz's sister Rosalia and their family owned the theater for over seventy years. In 1928, the modern building was constructed. Designed by St. Louis architects Gill & Jackson, the new brick theater was built to seat about 500 people and opened its doors in 1929.

For decades, the Royal was much more than a movie theater. Pacific residents came to see Hollywood stars on the big screen, enjoy newsreels, cartoons and serials, and attend live entertainment. It was so popular that area children would take trains to Pacific to catch a show there. The building also hosted school graduations, plays, musical programs, church services, and other community gatherings. Admission was originally just 10¢ for adults and 5¢ for children!

The Royal remained a familiar landmark in downtown Pacific for generations. Though its days as a movie theater eventually came to an end, the historic building remains an important reminder of Pacific's rich history.

💙 FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS — THANK YOU, CITIZENS BANK! 💙

We truly cannot say THANK YOU enough to Citizens Bank for their incredibly generous donation to our picnic table fundraising campaign at the Red Cedar Inn Museum & Visitor Center!

This donation was such a wonderful and unexpected surprise, and it means more to us than we can put into words. To know that Citizens Bank thought of Red Cedar Inn, our visitors, and our community and chose to help us reach this goal is something we are incredibly grateful for.

Thanks to their generosity, along with the donations we have received from so many wonderful guests throughout the summer, we are now TWO-THIRDS of the way to our goal! 🎉❤️

Our hope is to add six picnic tables and umbrellas to the Red Cedar Inn grounds, giving our visitors a welcoming place to sit, relax, enjoy a picnic lunch, and spend a little more time enjoying this special piece of Pacific and Route 66.

Throughout the summer, we have been so touched by the people who have dropped a few dollars into our donation box to help make this project possible. Every single donation has meant so much to us. And then to receive this generous gift from Citizens Bank was truly the icing on the cake!

We are so fortunate to live and work in a community where our businesses don't just do business here — they invest in our community, support our organizations, and help make Pacific an even better place for the people who live here and the thousands of visitors who come through our doors.

Citizens Bank, THANK YOU for believing in what we are doing at Red Cedar Inn. Thank you for thinking of our visitors. Thank you for supporting this project. And most of all, thank you for continuing to be such an amazing community partner to Pacific. 💙

We are incredibly grateful for your generosity and support!

We are officially 2/3 of the way there, and we couldn't have gotten this far without the generosity of our community!

From all of us at Red Cedar Inn — THANK YOU, CITIZENS BANK! ❤️

🎉 A SPECIAL CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR DIRECTOR OF TOURISM, KELLY O’MALLEY, AND THE CITY OF PACIFIC! 🎉

We want to take a moment to recognize a very special honor!
At a recent Pacific Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon, our Director of Tourism, Kelly O’Malley, was presented with a Resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives recognizing her work, leadership, and dedication to the Route 66 Centennial and America’s 250th anniversary celebrations here in Pacific.

Kelly was nominated for this recognition by the Pacific Area Chamber of Commerce, and Representative Brad Banderman of District 119 presented her with the Resolution in front of fellow community members, businesses, and local leaders.
But the recognition didn’t stop there!

🏆 The CITY OF PACIFIC also received a Resolution from the Missouri House of Representatives recognizing the City’s dedication to preserving and celebrating Route 66 and the tremendous effort that has gone into making this historic year memorable for our community and visitors!

There has been SO MUCH happening in Pacific this year, and Kelly’s leadership and dedication have helped bring many of these events, programs, and projects together, including:
🛣️ Route 66 BBQ Battle & Bluegrass Festival
🇺🇸 America’s 250th Fourth of July Parade
🎬 Cars 3 Movie Night at Liberty Field
🚗 Numerous car cruises and special visits and events at the Red Cedar Inn
🧵 The current Route 66 Traveling Quilt Exhibit
🛣️ The special Route 66 traveling exhibit coming September 16 & 17
🎉 Co-hosting the upcoming Route 66 Harvest Festival
❤️ And so much more!

Kelly also leads Pacific’s Route 66 Centennial Committee, whose members have worked incredibly hard on projects throughout the community, including the Hometown Hero veteran banners, Route 66 Quilt Trail, Route 66 shields and stencils you see throughout Pacific, the giant interactive Route 66 shield, the free travel guide, special events, and many other projects celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime year.

And her work goes far beyond special events. Her dedication to the Red Cedar Inn Museum & Visitor Center and to preserving and sharing Pacific’s history is a huge part of what she does. Whether she is welcoming a visitor from across the country, sharing a piece of local history, bringing a new exhibit to Red Cedar, working with volunteers, or finding another way to tell Pacific’s story, she is always looking for opportunities to showcase our community.

What the public sees at an event or at Red Cedar is only a small part of what goes into making all of this happen. There are countless hours and many things happening behind the scenes that most people may never see. Kelly gives her all to what she does, and one thing is always clear—she truly loves Pacific. She loves sharing our community, our history, our businesses, our people, and everything that makes Pacific special with everyone she meets.

And as Kelly said when accepting this recognition, NONE of this happens because of just one person.

It takes an entire community. ❤️

Our volunteers, City staff, public works, parks and police department, Red Cedar employees, sponsors, businesses, committee members, organizations, residents, and community partners have stepped up again and again to help bring these ideas to life. Every person who has volunteered, sponsored an event, served on a committee, donated something, attended an event, shared a post, or simply supported these efforts has played a part in making this year special.

Congratulations, Kelly, and congratulations to the City of Pacific on this well-deserved recognition!

And the best part?

WE AREN’T DONE YET!

We still have several months left in this historic year, and there is SO MUCH MORE coming to Pacific as we continue celebrating 100 years of Route 66 and America’s 250th anniversary.

It has already been a year to remember, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

Car passing Opeechee Beach Resort near Pacific, 1930's

Located along the Meramec River in Jefferson County, Opeechee Beach stood at the Southern end of the Highway F Bridge, which stood until 1971 when the current bridge was built. It was one of several resorts along the Meramec during the Roaring 20's and was neighbors with Camp Solidarity, a private club along Highway O. Both places still exist today.
