🌸 Meet Stefanie.

Stefanie moved to Paducah with her husband, David, as participants in Paducah’s Artist Relocation Program in 2007. Their goal in choosing to live in an art community wasn’t just to make money off of their art, it was in hopes of gaining inspiration and knowledge from their peers.

“It has been inspiring to be part of a city that focuses so much on the arts and be part of it as it has grown into an internationally recognized UNESCO [Creative City],” Stefanie said.

Stefanie’s love for watercolor emerged from the beginning of her art journey, right after she took her first art class post nursing school. She saw it as a challenge she was willing to master, and now, 40 years later, still finds herself learning new techniques.

“My style is more bold and intense than a lot of watercolorists,” Stefanie said. “I’ve never been able to keep my paintings on the pastel side.”

As President of The Art Guild of Paducah, Stefanie meets visitors who express their interest in Paducah because of the strong culture in arts and creativity.

“I love bragging about Paducah as an amazing, unique small town that hosts not only internationally known museums, like The National Quilt Museum, but also has its own symphony orchestra, a nearly 70 year old community arts center, a performing arts center attracting live performances from across the country, and a large concentration of artists.”

Stefanie’s work is a testament to the dedication of Paducah’s local creative community, and is only one example of the many gifted artists who make Paducah the creative destination it is.

You can find more of Stefanie’s work at The Art Guild of Paducah or cowango.com!

👀 Did you know that pink building on Kentucky Ave. still has its original sign painted into the bricks? Finkel's served shoppers across Paducah and beyond for decades before closing its doors in 1990. The business provided everything from work boots to everyday essentials.

Today, the building serves as a multi-purpose performance space for Market House Theatre, keeping Paducah's creative spirit alive. Did you ever shop at Finkel's? Share your memories in the comments!
