Most of you think a green card needs a company in America to sponsor you. That is one route, and it is a slow one. There are two other routes where you sponsor yourself. One is EB-1A, for people who have built a strong record in their field, and the other is EB2 NIW, where you show that your work is important enough to America that they waive the job offer requirement altogether. I have done many of these for doctors, lab scientists, engineers, public health people, IT people and business owners, and the ones who succeed are the ones who kept records of what they did. The waiting lists you read about apply to countries that send very large numbers of applicants each year. Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and most of Africa are not in that group, so once a petition is approved there is usually no queue for the green card itself. So if this is something you have been turning over in your mind, take a weekend and write down your degrees, publications, the projects you led, money or the lives your work touched, any awards, and any time you trained or supervised others. Look at that list with cold eyes. That list will tell you whether you have a case today or whether you need one or two more years. I run Merit Visa Services in Tucson and we prepare these petitions. I am not a lawyer and I do not pretend to be one. I prepare the documents, and so far more than forty ofour clients have been approved. If you want me to look at your list, message me Eb2niw
