Tour the homeplace of Loretta Lynn at "Butcher Holler" in Van Lear. Stop by the Van Lear Coal Miners' Museum to see artifacts and a replica of the coal mining town. The US 23 Country Music Highway Museum displays 14 exhibits of memorabilia from country music stars such as Loretta Lynn, Chris Stapleton, Billy Ray Cyrus, Keith Whitley, Dwight Yoakam, and many more. Step back in time at the Mountain

HomePlace, an 1850's Appalachian working farm. Tour the 27 acres and see the double-pen cabin, one-room school, farm animals, and much more. Downtown Paintsville offers antiquing, unique local restaurants, and a historic walking tour. Tour the Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church and see the lovely stained-glass windows and organ donated by Andrew Carnegie. Attend a concert or watch a movie at the historic Sipp Theatre. Take part in adventure tourism at Paintsville Lake State Park where you can hike, kayak, fish, or jet-ski. Both RV and primitive spots are available at the campground. Test your skills and cross the swinging bridge at the Paintsville Golf Course. Hike, bike, or horseback ride on the Dawkins Line Rail Trail, Kentucky's longest rail-to-trail. In the community of River, walk across the Forest and Maxine Preston Memorial Pedestrian Bridge. Constructed from composite plastic fibers and 420 feet in length, this bridge is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest plastic pedestrian bridge in the world. Also in River, you will find the grave of famous pioneer Jenny Wiley. Visit the Oil Springs Cultural Arts and Recreation Center (OSCAR) for classes including quilting, pottery, woodcarving, painting, recycled art, and drama. Music, golfing, fishing, hiking, camping, antique shopping, local eateries, and more...enjoy it all in Paintsville, KY!
