Last week, we hiked Jean and John Greene Nature Preserve, now open since 2022 after extensive renovation. A gorgeous 61 acres on Lake Michigan with a suspension bridge crossing one of the 3 big ravines, and an amazing walkway down a ravine towards the lake.. We learned about the bird migration in this area and the lovely orange Jewelweed wildflower. Access to the lake was closed due to erosion restoration, so we had our lunch on the shores of Ft Sheridan instead. Thank you to Christine "MacGyver" for leading on Saturday!

Acadia National Park is a special place, and even more special going with other women who like to hike, laugh, and love nature. The trails took us up Cadillac Mountain, along the pink-granite rocks with the crashing ocean, to Jordon's Pond popovers, kayaking the quiet west side, hiking to Bar Island at low tide, dawn's first light, schooner sailing, and of course indulging in lobster and blueberries. Thank you to Julie "Wander Woman", Christine "MacGyver", and Karen "Cairn" for leading these women through 2 weeks and 2 trips!

There is a fantastic event in Barrington coming Saturday, Sept. 26th. An evening of live blue-grass music, dancing, unlimited food and drink, a HUGE bonfire, birds of prey, narrated wagon rides, and star-gazing.. The past 2 weeks we hiked at Lakewood Forest Preserve and Mallard Lake Forest Preserve.. Both have tremendous fall wildflowers.. Lakewood has the bonus of pine trees & carpets of Brown-Eyed Susans, and Mallard Lake has the amazing 85 acre lake. Both have the wild women which make the hike so fun. :-) Next week, Silver Creek in Crystal Lake!

Trailbound "Urban" made their way to the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford, ranked 2nd best Japanese garden in the US. Chris, aka "Mountain Mama" led the group through this inspiring sanctuary. Japanese gardens seek to foster harmony between human creativity and the natural world, using rocks, water, and plants. A true delight to experience.

If you're in the Barrington area, check out the Chimney Swifts as they prepare for a 3,000-mile fall migration to South America. They gather in large flocks each evening, swirl, then roost by flying into a chimney. These fast birds (up to 60 mph) spend their entire days flying and eating insects. They’re listed as a “Common Bird on Steep Decline”, so it's extra special to see them, and a reminder to protet their habitats. They’ll likely stay through mid to late September. In Barrington, watch this from the parking lot behind the old Catlow Movie Theater. Bring a chair and enjoy this amazing phenomonen; the swirls start around 7:15 and they enter the chimney shortly after 8:00.

A magical thing happens when 12 women say yes to adventure in Bayfield, WI and the Apostle Islands. We kayaked the labyrinth of tunnels and sea caves of Devils Island, explored the boreal forest of Madeline Island & were amazed by the pristine waters of Lake Superior. We sailed, biked, savored freshly caught whitefish, blueberry picked, and gazed at the multitude of stars by a beach bonfire. Wow, when can I go back?? I loved being with these amazing women!!
