🇺🇸 Help us kick off the 4th of July in Palestine.

The America 250: A Star-Spangled Jubilee Parade will step off at 10 AM on July 4 in downtown Palestine.

This year's parade theme is Vintage Americana, so decorate your float, vehicle, or entry, and join us as we celebrate America's 250th birthday.

🏆 First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded for the top floats.

Entries will be judged on:
• Creativity and Originality
• Spirit and Enthusiasm
• Visual Appeal and Presentation

🎶 Patriotic music is highly encouraged.

To be eligible for awards, applications must be submitted by 1 PM on July 1, 2026.

Participant check-in begins at 9 AM at Church & Crawford.

Apple, peach, or blueberry?

The Star-Spangled Jubilee Pie Baking Contest is part of Palestine's America 250 celebration on the 4th of July in Old Town Palestine, right next to Fire Station 1, and we're inviting pie bakers to join the fun.
Hosted by Palestine Farmers Market

Entries will be judged by the people, with attendees blind voting based on taste and texture alone. A blue ribbon and cash prize will be awarded to the first-place pie in each category.

Applications are open through June 18 at 5:00 PM.

Want to help choose the winners? People's Choice tasting will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with awards at 1:00 PM.

Decorate your bike and help celebrate America's 250th Birthday in Palestine!

Did you participate in the Kids Bike Parade on the 4th of July in 2010 or 2011?

This year we're inviting riders of all ages to join our People's Choice Bicycle Decorating Contest on the 4th of July. Red, white, and blue, patriotic, historical, or creative, we'd love to see what you come up with.

No bike? No problem. Wagons, scooters, trikes, and other decorated wheels are welcome too.

Want to ride in the parade? Great. Just want to decorate and show off your creativity? We'd love to see that too.

🏆 People's Choice awards will be presented in three age categories:

• Ages 3-7
• Ages 8-14
• Ages 15+

If you’d like to participate complete the online application form by 12 PM on July 1, 2026

Travel and Tourism Week was one for the books! 🎉

At the end of May, the Visit Palestine, TX team had the opportunity to join our friends at the Texas Travel Information Center in Waskom, TX for their annual Travel & Tourism Rally.

Over the course of just three hours, more than 340 families stopped by to learn about destinations across Texas, share stories from their travels, and gather inspiration for future adventures. We loved meeting so many travelers and introducing them to all the history, charm, outdoor recreation, and rail experiences waiting for them in Palestine, TX.

The day was made even more special as we witnessed a proclamation from the Mayor of Waskom recognizing the Texas Travel Information Center and the impact of Travel & Tourism Week. We also enjoyed connecting with tourism partners from across the state and meeting the Mayor of Waskom.

A huge thank you to the incredible TTIC Waskom staff for hosting such a successful event and for the work they do every day welcoming visitors to Texas. We are grateful for our partnership and already looking forward to next year!

We're celebrating America's 250th Birthday right here in Historic Old Town Palestine, Texas, and you're invited! 🇺🇸 America 250 Car Show July 3rd & 4th Visit Palestine, Texas
Join us July 3rd and 4th for two days packed with classic cars, live music, great food, fireworks, a patriotic parade, and family fun. Kick things off Thursday evening with our Downtown Cruise-In, a concert by Detroit Steel, and a spectacular fireworks show. Then come back Friday for the America 250 Festival and The Journey HQ All-American Car Show.
This is shaping up to be one of the biggest celebrations Palestine has ever seen, and we hope you'll be part of it!

🇺🇸 This June and July, we're proud to honor the veterans of Palestine through our new Patriots of Palestine series. Each Monday, we'll share the story of a local veteran whose service, leadership, and dedication have helped shape our community and our nation.

Patriots of Palestine: James "Jim" Mahoney

We're honored to recognize Master Sergeant James "Jim" Mahoney, USMC (Ret.), who served our country from 1981 to 2003.

During his 22 years in the United States Marine Corps, Jim served as an infantry Marine, rifle marksmanship coach, recruiter, and logistics chief. His career took him around the world, and throughout his service he advanced from Squad Leader to Platoon Commander, taking on increasing leadership responsibilities before retiring as a Master Sergeant.

Reflecting on his service, Jim says the camaraderie among Marines is what stands out most.
“When you go to the Marines, the first thing you do is stand in yellow footprints, to be put into ranks. Every Marine knows what those footprints stand for. It's a very close community.”

Today, Jim continues serving fellow veterans as Commandant of the Marine Corps League and is a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Thank you, Jim, for your service, leadership, and continued dedication to veterans and our community. 🇺🇸
