Help keep our Florida sea-friends safe!

To minimize the risk of vessel strikes, which are the leading cause of lethal stranding for sea turtles in Florida, boaters should adhere to the following guidelines, particularly during nesting season.

✅ Travel at Minimum Safe Speed: In designated areas, boaters must travel at the slowest speed possible while maintaining steerage.
✅ Designate a Spotter: Assign a passenger to specifically watch for wildlife at the surface, as the operator’s view may be obstructed.
✅ Wear Polarized Sunglasses: These reduce glare and significantly improve the ability to see turtles just below the water surface.
✅ Avoid High-Risk Areas: Exercise extreme caution in coastal passes, inlets, and high-density nesting beaches where boat traffic and turtle activity converge.
✅ Report Incidents: If you strike a turtle or spot an injured, stranded, or dead turtle, immediately contact MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife at 888-404-3922.
