PRESS RELEASE

On March 27th, 2024 at approximately 8:00am MATCOM dispatch received a 9-1-1 call (REDDI) regarding a dangerous driver in a black full-size pickup that was traveling north towards Wasilla on the Parks Highway from the Interchange. While Officers and Troopers were responding to the area attempting to intercept the vehicle, MATCOM received multiple subsequent 9-1-1 calls reporting a serious collision on the Parks Highway near the intersection of Alpine Street.

Wasilla Police Department officers arrived on scene in less than one minute and found three vehicles involved. Witness statements and evidence collected on scene indicated the pickup traveling northbound, driven by Steven Brodigan, age 29 of Wasilla, had crossed through the continuous turn lane on the Parks Highway and hit an SUV traveling in the inside southbound lane head-on. The SUV was driven by Norma Kincaid, age 63 of Wasilla. Both Brodigan and Kincaid were transported from the scene to Matsu Regional Hospital for emergency care. Despite lifesaving efforts, Kincaid was pronounced deceased as a result of the accident. Brodigan was later transferred to a different hospital in Anchorage for further care. The third vehicle involved, a sedan, was heavily damaged in the collision but the driver was released from the scene without significant injuries. Initial investigation indicates that alcohol was a factor in the collision. A criminal investigation is ongoing.

We offer our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased, and everyone affected by this collision. Wasilla Police Department would also like to express our gratitude to the community members who assisted during the incident and our partners with MATCOM dispatch, Mat-Su Borough Fire & EMS, and the Alaska State Troopers. Additional updates will be released as the investigation continues.
