The first Trails & Tunes Happy Hour Hike was a huge success! We hiked hilly trails, played trial trivia, caught and released toads, counted spider webs, and found a hidden pond. Then, we enjoyed live music, food, and drinks at Backwoods by Kettle Ridge Farm.

Today I went for a paddle on the Erie Canal. It was a scouting trip for one of my upcoming summer camps and I am so excited to explore this location again. My wonderful mother joined me and we saw baby ducks and geese, a mink, and beautiful views!

Blue-Spotted Salamanders at Bullis Park! Disclaimer: Children should not handle amphibians without supervision and especially not when wearing bug-spray that contains DEET! It’s toxic to these creatures and can cause serious illness or death. For extra safety, we always get our hands dirty before moving a salamander out of the way when replacing a rock or log. This keeps any oils or chemicals on our skin away from their sensitive pores.

Happy World Turtle Day! Turtles are by far my favorite reptile. I love their shells, the way they bask in the son, and how resilient they are. The turtle treks I have hosted so far this year have been so much fun and next month I get to host my first turtle themed birthday party! It has been a turtlley spring so far.

I’m scheduling fall family hikes and activities and would love input from interested families!

Unfortunately, I’m not available most weekends in September and October, so I’m looking at week day afternoon / early evening offerings.

What days of the week and times work best for your family? (Monday - Friday after 3:30 PM)

I’m thinking fall hikes where we look for changing colors, talk about the ways nature prepares for winter, and create artwork using gathered supplies like leaves, pinecones, stones, and more!

I would also like to offer some fall fishing afternoons.
