’Twas the night before St. Patrick’s, and all through the bar,
Not a creature was sober, not near and not far.
The Guinness was poured with precision and care,
In hopes that good luck would soon fill the air.

The lads and the lasses were snug in their seats,
With visions of clovers and whiskey so neat.
And I in my green hat, with shamrock in tow,
Had just settled in for the late-night show.

When out on the street there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my stool to see what was the matter.
Away to the doorway I stumbled and swayed,
Tripping o’er barstools (too many, I’d played).

The moon on the kegs of spilled ale on the ground
Gave a luster of gold to the chaos around.
When what to my wandering eyes should appear,
But a leprechaun laughing and holding my beer!

With a wink and a grin, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment—this lad was a trick.
He danced and he jigged, then vanished from sight,
Shouting, “Happy St. Paddy’s, and to all a good night!” 🍀
