Here it is, the long awaited rare find!! ‼️🎉This is the long spine porcupine fish what we typically find is a striped burrfish also known as a box puffer which is also a part of the porcupine fish family however we have never ever found one in St Andrews Bay these are typically found in the Caribbean reef in Florida keys. Maybe not as exciting as some of you had hope but I thought it was the cutest thing ever. Can you spot the difference in the photos below you can see a Long's fine porcupine and a burrrish side by side. Good job Captain dirty awesome find. 🐡

🚩🚩Don't allow double red flags ruin your vacation! 🚩🚩
The number one most important thing about red flags even single red flags is don't enter the water. It is not worth the risk and it is very important to take the flag system very seriously. But you don't have to let it ruin your vacation. Red flags do not affect our tours. They can limit us being able to go into the Gulf at times (not all the time). However we don't have rip currents at our snorkeling spots in the bay so join us on a tour to go snorkeling and find sea life like starfish sea urchins maybe a puffer fish maybe a conch, shells and sanddolars. who knows what we will find. We are running and booking tours daily and having an absolute blast even getting to sometimes swim with dolphins. We know how depressing and sad the flag system can be however it's so important to understand and respect the water here. But let's make the best of it while you're here and go on a dolphin and snorkel tour at Shell Island! ⚠️‼️The color isn't what makes them dead or alive the cilia MOVING does. In fact they can even be dead and still have cilia on them. This sand dollar is in decomposition stage where it has recently died however lost all of its cilia. If you put these guys on your porch in the Sun for about a week they will be bleach white. This was a huge sand dollar Captain David found while snorkeling for his customers.

Sand dollars go through a decomposition process. When they die they do not immediately turn white. Sand dollars have what is called cilia on them this is what helps them move and breathe. Once they are dead the cilia starts to decompose so you may find sand dollars that are gray that are dead. Before attacking anyone for having sand dollars be sure that you know that it does not have cilia on it. Also if you pick up a sand dollar and it is alive and you throw it back it dies anyway. Sand dollars are top heavy and will flip upside down and they cannot turn themselves over so they will die. They have to be placed on the sandy bottom and almost slightly buried. If you're picking him up and throwing them back or dropping them they're going to die.

Have you ever been looked at by a baby dolphin? It doesn't get much better than this guys. When the conditions are right, it's safe, and the Dolphins are cooperating we get experiences like this. Obviously not every tour is the same but we can guarantee an amazing time come see us in Panama City Beach Florida
