🐚 Queen Helmet Snail Fun Facts!
• 👑 They get their name from their large, helmet-shaped shell—hence “Queen Helmet.”
• 🐌 They can grow over a foot long, making them one of the larger snails found in Florida waters.
• 🦔 They're predators, not just pretty shells! They use their muscular foot and specialized mouthparts to prey on animals like sea urchins and sand dollars.
• 🦷 Their radula (a tongue-like feeding structure) has tiny teeth that help them eat their prey.
• 🏖️ They live in sandy bottoms and shallow coastal waters, including areas around Florida's Gulf Coast.
• 🐚 Their shells are incredibly thick and heavy, helping protect them from predators.
• 👀 They have eyes at the tips of their tentacles to help detect what's around them.
• 🌊 Finding a live Queen Helmet Snail is a pretty cool encounter—they're much more interesting than an empty shell!
And here's a cool one: Queen Helmet Snails are capable of burying themselves in the sand, where they can hide and hunt.
