Since its inception in 2006, La Mancha Gallery has been an avenue and voice for intellectual and social criticism in Los Angeles. We are an event based Gallery and a great resource for Contemporary and Fine Art. Our aim is to be a common atmosphere through diverse ideas and perspectives with the intent to bring together artistic talent and art aficionados.

Eighteen years ago, I took La Mancha Gallery off its foundation. Rent on a permanent space in Los Angeles is a tax on ambition, and that tax falls hardest on the artists and audiences I most wanted in the room. So I built something else β€” a gallery that goes to the people instead of asking them to come to it.
More than 200 exhibitions later, that model has landed at the Historic Dunbar Hotel on Central Avenue, the building that was the heart of Black Los Angeles when no other hotel in the city would have it. The current show, Women of Central Avenue: Keepers of the Flame, puts nine women on those walls.
My new essay on The Cultural Thread is about why this kind of programming matters and how it actually gets built.

The exhibition is up through the end of May at Arts @ Delicious inside the Dunbar.

Before she was an award-winning artist, Riea Owens was a seven-year-old in Pasadena dragging every visitor into the piano room to see the world she'd built out of doll clothes and drawings. She never lost the drive. She only changed instruments.
This April, Owens brings Oh, Happy Day! to the Historic Dunbar Hotel β€” a painting of a gospel choir mid-shout, women in red and green with their heads thrown back and the music pouring out of them. "I was not raised in the church," she says, "but a rockin' gospel choir will get me every time. It's soulful, and the base of R&B and Rock N' Roll."
She named it after the 1969 record that carried gospel onto pop radio and never gave it back. And she's hanging it on Central Avenue β€” the artery of Black music in Los Angeles, the corridor that ran straight through the Dunbar.
The Women of Central Avenue: Keepers of the Flame opens April 2026 at Arts @ Delicious, inside the Historic Dunbar Hotel, 4229 S. Central Ave.

Two hours, live. The kind of Sunday you don't get back if you miss it.

Look closely... and you'll see her.
In Adrianne Devine's canvas, a young Black woman steps forward β€” mortarboard squared to the sky. Confident. Educated. Paid. Beside her stands a classic figure bearing water, embodying self-reliance, spirituality, and protection. The ancestral and the modern, side by side. The vessel and the diploma.
Behind them, a multiplicity of windows creates a timeless cityscape where yesterday, today, and tomorrow coexist. Mothers. Daughters. Schoolgirls. Matriarchs. Their quiet presence forms the living architecture of the scene. Above, celestial bodies pause to charge infinite horizons. Angels rise in jubilation. At the women's feet, golden blooms open toward the sun.
Every element points, unmistakably, toward light. Toward legacy. Toward the great expectations carried forward.
Adrianne Devine is a featured artist in Women of Central Avenue: Keepers of the Flame, presented by Arts @ Delicious at The Historic Dunbar Hotel β€” 4229 S. Central Ave, Los Angeles.

I'm asking my community for a favor today β€” and it's an easy one. 🌟

My friend Katia Moraes is in a public voting competition, and I'd love for all of you to vote for her.

Katia is a Brazilian singer and songwriter β€” a Carioca from Rio de Janeiro β€” who came to Los Angeles in 1990 planning to stay just one year. That one year turned into a lifelong career. She got her first U.S. break in Venice with Banda MistΓ©rio, then co-founded The Rio Thing with musicians from France, Germany, Peru, and the United States. For decades she has been one of the key figures bringing Brazilian music to California β€” through bands, festivals, and cultural projects that build bridges across communities.

If she wins this competition, she takes home $25,000, gets featured in Artforum magazine, and exhibits her artwork at the Art of Elysium's Salon. She plans to use the winnings to invest in her Brazilian Heart print-on-demand line, publish another book of poems, short stories, lyrics, and visual art, and launch a podcast. Everything she's building gives back to artists and to culture.

Voting opens Monday, May 4th, and you can vote once a day until the contest ends.

Vote here πŸ‘‰ https://peoplesartist.org/2026/k-tia-moraes

If Katia's work has ever moved you, or if you simply trust me when I tell you who's worth supporting β€” please vote, and please share this with your circle. β˜€οΈ

This Sunday, live music returns to Delicious at The Dunbar β€” and it may be your last chance to experience Legacy on Central before the exhibition closes April 30. Blue Quatro takes the stage with bossa nova, boleros, jazz, and timeless standards. The kind of music that fills a room and stays with you.

While you're here β€” walk through Legacy on Central, our current group show honoring culture and history through the lens of contemporary art. Nine artists. One avenue. A living legacy. After April 30, a new and exciting exhibition takes its place. Don't miss your window.
