CRUISE LINGO 101: What the Heck Are They Talking About?! 🚢
First cruise? Feeling like everyone’s speaking a different language? Don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! Here's a lighthearted guide to help you feel like a pro on Day 1.
🔹 Starboard = Fancy talk for the right side of the ship (when you're facing forward).
🔹 Port = The left side. Pro tip: "Port" and "left" both have four letters. Easy, right?
🔹 Aft = That’s the back of the ship.
🔹 Forward = You guessed it—the front of the ship.
🔹 Ship = Yes, it’s a ship, not a boat. Call it a boat and the seasoned cruisers might gasp dramatically. 😱
🌞 Lido Deck = Your go-to zone for sunshine, pools, buffets, and often ice cream machines. Swimsuits and flip-flops welcome!
🍽️ MDR (Main Dining Room) = Where the fancy-ish meals happen. Dinner every night, and sometimes brunch or sit-down breakfast. No tray-carrying here—you're getting waited on!
🛥️ Tender = When there's no pier, these small boats tender you from the ship to the shore (like at Half Moon Cay). It’s basically a mini-adventure before your beach day.
📅 Embarkation Day = The magical day you get on the ship and start your vacation. Cue the excitement! 🎉
😢 Disembarkation Day = The sniff sniff day you get off the ship and return to real life. Not a fan favorite.

💡 Bonus Tips for First-Timers:
Bring a reusable cup—you’ll thank yourself at the self-serve drink stations.
Download the cruise line’s app—it’s your personal cruise planner.
Relax and explore—you can’t see it all in one day, and that’s OK!
