This is exactly what we mean when we say history is all around you… you just have to go looking for it.
Love seeing LaPointe-Krebs getting the next generation involved in exploring the stories that make up Jackson County.
If you’ve got a high schooler — don’t let them miss this.

🎉 Highschoolers are you ready to explore YOUR city like never before?
🗺️ May is National Preservation Month,
and the Jackson County Historical and Genealogy Society is inviting local high school students to take part in something pretty special…
Join us for the
Historical Marker Scavenger Hunt Challenge
For Jackson County High School Students
(Public, Private, and Homeschooled)
We’re calling on high school students with reliable transportation from each of our Jackson County cities, Pascagoula, Moss Point, Ocean Springs, Gautier, and the unincorporated communities, to help locate and document the historical markers that tell the story of your community.
This is a fun way to learn local history, explore your city, and compete for prizes:
🥇 $100 – First Place
🥈 $50 – Second Place
🥉 $25 – Third Place
(awarded for each city or community)
🏆 Winners will be determined by the highest number of verified historical markers documented in each city/community.
If you're ready to represent your city and uncover the history around you, join the hunt!
📅 The hunt begins May 1st and ends May 31st
📍 Submit photographs with GPS coordinates or copies of the text and nearest road intersections
📬 Send responses to the Post Office Box listed
🎁 Prizes will be mailed before June 15th (don’t forget your return address!)
