It’s with a very sad heart that I bring this news to my riding ‘family’. Long time Atascadero HOG chapter member, Head Road Captain, and Founding Member of Central Coast Cruisers, Ken Bishop, passed on to his Heavenly home today. I received word from his wife Sue this afternoon. Ken and Sue were already highly active members, and Ken was Head Road Captain, when Kerri and I joined the HOG chapter so many years ago. They were some of the first to welcome us into the group. Ken was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. His gentle demeanor, easy smile, and generous spirit made Ken a pleasure to be around. His amazing knowledge of highways, back roads, and pretty much any route that would make for a great motorcycle ride was almost uncanny, and made him an amazing Road Captain. Ken seemed to love leading a caravan of bikes, genuinely enjoying it, and it seemed to just come naturally to him. One of my fondest memories of any of my many Harley journeys, though, is returning from the National HOG Rally in Billings, Montana, just the two of us. On the road all day and well into the night, minor misadventures in the middle of nowhere in Idaho well after dark, on the road on the 4th of July, hanging out after a hard day’s riding before calling it a night, then getting up the next morning to do it all over again. So many rides, so many memories, and so many great times, with a man that just made it easy to enjoy being around him. We’ve missed Ken and Sue since they moved from the area several years ago, but knowing Ken is gone makes us miss him all the more. Ken passed peacefully with family by his side. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue and the rest of the family. Ken will live on in our fondest memories, and those of us who knew him know he’s now forever In The Wind, riding the most beautiful roads anyone could ever imagine. Peace, Ken.
